Two public health specialists at the University of California San Diego painted a grim picture of the health conditions facing sex workers and
injection-drug users in Tijuana.
Steffanie Strathdee, UCSD's chief of international health, and Tom Patterson, UCSD professor-in-residence of psychiatry, spoke Thursday at a “Tequila
Talk” sponsored by the Institute of the Americas. Data show female sex workers who inject drugs have an HIV prevalency of 15 percent. “That is really
scary,” Strathdee said. Data also show the HIV prevalency of male drug injectors has risen from 3 percent to 6 percent. Hepatitis C prevalency among

A doctor pal of mine in Guerrero Negro told me that HIV is of epidemic proportions in that city so all you guys going to the cantinas there...cuidado!
the reason is that there is a large army base there and so there is lots of unprotected sex going on and it has spread throughout the
community...aguas!
