Roy of Rancho Leonero

CoastalFlifisher - 11-13-2006 at 09:05 PM

The wife and I just returned last week from the Ranch. We met some great people during our stay but heard on " Let's talk Hook up " radio this weekend that long time East Cape resident and good friend of John Ireland " Roy " had passed away. We didn't get to really talk to Roy except to say " Hi " to he and his bird
" Ranger " who he's had for 34 years. It was a great loss to many in the East Cape who knew him and especially Ranger........

So many losses lately....I was looking forward to meeting Roy this winter and thanking him for some of his travel reports...

I never met him, but we exchanged emails a few times. He is something of a legend to many who know of his travels. This guy did what most of us wished we could. The entertainment value of his stories and photography are something to be marveled. I invite everyone to read his stuff from the Leonero website. I have met so many people that had the pleasure of knowing him and they all share that he was a character larger than life. Senior Divertido (Mr. Fun) was his handle and he sure loved life!

Anyone who is interested can still access his stories at:

What a loss.

Adios Roy

Sr. Divertido (Roy) was an inspiration on how to love life, every minute of it. His travel tales made you feel as if you were there with him. Truly one of those unique 'only in Baja' characters.

I loved reading about Roy's Baja adventures. I never had a chance to meet him, but we corresponded through email a few times. I told him that I was living vicariosly through him reading all of his stories. He will be greatly missed.
