Thinking of going to Mainland this year instead of Baja. Maybe Copper Canyon. Anyone know of any forums for me. What is the camping, hotels, driving like? How much of the Copper Canyon can I drive. I have a Dakota 4X4.

Hi,
I know other people have done more 4x4 trips in Copper Canyon, but here is a link to a fairly recent trip we took to Creel and then to Batopilas.

We really like the Creel area. Also, when we go, we cross at Naco---much easier, and then we go to Nuevo Casas Grandes close to Mata Ortiz. We have started collecting pottery from Mata Ortiz.

In the Nuevo Casas Grandes area there are some very interesting places to visit, including the great Paquime Museum and ruins at Casas Grandes. If you have a camper, there is one park in Nuevo Casas Grandes, or you can stay behind Pistoleros Restuarant. If not, we like the Hotel Villa Colonial. It is not fancy, but very nice, popular with the Mexicans---and they are dog friendly.

From there, we like to take the "back" way to Creel and stay away from the toll road. So much in that area that we still need to explore.

Happy to answer any questions I can---Great Place to Visit

Diane

On edit, be sure to read the history of Batopilas if you go. Also, I wanted to attach one photo that I did not include in the original post----an open store on the main plaza in Batopilas
I think disposable diapers, coca cola, and plastic have taken over the world.
