Christmas in Baja, What to Expect?

preston - 12-4-2006 at 01:58 PM

Hi:

I'll be traveling through Baja on Xmas. 1st night (December 23) will be El Rosario (Baja Cactus). December 24th will be on to Mulege. Will be with mi esposa and dos ninos. Any suggestions on what to do in Mulege on Christmas eve?
Is there a servioce at the Mission?
Fiesta at the the Serenidad (or other place)?
Will there be a Fiesta at Santispec?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

After Mulege, it will be Loreto for a day and then to SJDC for a family reunion.

I'll be sure to leave a trip report and photos.

Considering all the damage hurricane John did, I would expect the town to be ready for a fiesta to cheer everyone up. It would be good to take clothing, blankets and toys down for those in need if you can. Christmas in Baja is a magical experience, at least for me. My favorite place was setting on the room balcony at the Los Arcos hotel in La Paz overlooking the bay with all the sail boats with their xmas lights on. There was a park near by with a hugh pile of wrapped toys that was handed out later in the evening. Lot's of fun for all.

I think I'll book a room at the Serenidad and "cruise" the town as suggested. I like your idea of some extra toys and cloths.

Will do.

Thanks again,

Preston

Mike:

Thanks for the quick reply. I emailed a reservation request but will try to call this evening to confirm.

Has the hotel fully recovered from the hurricane? I know that parts of Mulege are still in recovery, but can't find specific status of the hotel.

I will be traveling with my wife and 2 kids in a white Explorer with a Porta-Bote on it.

Hope to see you there.

Christmas is Baja is a dream come true.....and I agree that even with the damage done in some places will be beautiful anyway. I have found as mentioned above that if you stumble around laughing and having fun you will find more fun then you can imagine.....and bringing gifts that are much needed will make you like Santa Clause and be treated as such. It will be a Christmas like non-other I am sure......and Loreto has decorated the town square so beautiful that you feel like your in a wonderland. I love Baja so much during the holidays and so will you and your family. Have a safe trip and have fun becoming part of the event instead of an observer....it might be a little cool in the evening which a nice poncho would take care of for you and give you a special gift for yourself.....

Thanks all ... I am really getting excited about this trip ... I will follow the suggestions to bring gifts and the Christmas spirit with me.

I'll report.
