This is a picture of Avalanche as a pup. She was rescued from the side of the road close to San Felipoe. Can you see the sky and the brick column reflected in her eyes? It is hard to call her a pet. She was not a dog.

Avalanche left me when she was about two years old. Just jumped out the window of my truck in Valle Chico and went the other way. I believe she was a Mexican Grey wolf. She was not a dog.

Burro Bob... very interesting story. Here's some info from the internet regarding the Mexican Grey Wolf. It does mention that wolves like to travel around in packs and maybe that's why Avalanche jumped out the window of your truck.

Not just puppy love

djh - 12-7-2006 at 08:43 PM

Smokey (rip) crawled in bed with Dr. Tom (Tom Tom) about a week before he died from cancer. We knew we were about to loose him... Tom Tom did too... he washed Smokey's face, slept with him to keep him safe, warm, and loved, and mourned his death like we did...

Smokey (the little orange kitty) was rescued from a house fire and resuscitated by a fireman when he was just a kitten... He lived 10 good years before the lung damage ended his little life....

I learned alot about dignity and love in dying from my little friend.

Old and well worn, like a well loved teddy bear...
Shing cannot go to bed at night without old Griz on her pillow... Guess who has to go find him and lift his tired old bones up on the bed....

Griz was 21 lbs. in his prime... 1/2 bobcat and 1/2 domestic cat, but always very gentle and shy.

Skittles.... one of a kind... always purrrfect fur, fussy eater, a dignified purrrfect lady....

She can jump nearly straight up - from a stand still - over 6 feet - to the top of the fridge where she likes to sleep... up where it is warm.... and away from the prankster "Puff"... our graceful little Skittles... she's a one-man-kitty... (mine).

Gecko and Lito

oladulce - 12-8-2006 at 08:10 PM

Since we adopted these abandoned Mexicanos, are we eligible for dual citizenship?

They are like toddlers and can be terrors, but are also very entertaining.

Gecko is the acrobatic girl who's possessed with hair Scrunchies (the colorful ponytail things). I keep a bunch of them in a bathroom drawer that's almost 3 feet off the ground and couldn't figure out how the Scrunchies were ending up all over the house.

At about 4 months old (they're 3 months old in these photos) I noticed her sitting in the bathroom and staring up intently. The mystery was solved when she sprang off the ground and grabbed the top of the Scrunchie drawer where she hung by her front feet. She then pushed off the cabinet with her back legs and pulled the drawer open, and in one motion did a pull-up and grabbed a Scrunchie in her mouth, then dropped to the floor and ran off with it.

She also likes to step on the button that starts the document scanner so she can watch the light inside.

These 2 gatitos were left by their feral mom when their eyes were barely opened and they had just started walking on wobbly legs. We had to feed them with a dropper when we first found them and they never had anyone to teach them cat stuff. Gecko is fascinated by water and will sit on the bathroom counter and watch intently when I'm washing my face so she can play in the water after. One day i realized that she was not only playing in the water, but kept putting her paw under the faucet then cleaning her face with it like she had been observing me do.

Lito, the boy, has no special skills. He doesn't purr when you pet him, but does a dramatic growl and squeak when you're doing a good job like "grrrrRRRR- EEEEeeee".

We didn't want any gatos by the way, but what a couple of suckers we turned out to be.

One funny thing about Shelby, she is very afraid of fire works and any loud popping noises, like when we play pool in our game room. She hides behind the couch or under the bed. But when I play the piano she gets very excited and will sit right next to the piano bench the entire time with her head high in the air. She just loves it. Shelby is a very healthy dog, a cancer survivor over four years ago, and will be 14 in June of 2007. She is such a joy to be around and we love her so much. Pets are just the best, if only they had longer life spands. They would be your best friend forever!

I do not know the exact ratio but I saw on the Early show one morning how the aging process is different. They do age of course alot faster but I cannot remember the way it works.
