ENSENADA, Mexico - Police arrested a Spanish restaurant owner in this Mexican beach town and extradited him to Spain for being a presumed member of
the outlawed Basque separatist group ETA, a local police chief said.
Interpol and Mexican federal agents arrested Jose Antonio Borde on Sunday outside his home, Ensenada police chief Roberto Ramos Enriquez said late
Wednesday.
Borde had lived in his neighborhood for more than 15 years, and his neighbors mistakenly reported the arrest as a kidnapping to police.
In Spain, Borde faces charges that he participated in terrorist attacks that killed 16 people and injured 18 others.
ETA has claimed responsibility for the killing of more than 800 people in its three-decade campaign for an independent Basque homeland in northern
Spain and southern France.
