I will be in San Diego/Chula Vista mid- morning Saturday the 16th (thank God) :tumble:

I would like to spend time shopping at a good, large (and cheap) Tackle shop.
Any Ideals???
I do like my toys....

Point Loma in San Diego has the most amount of tackle stores in the area. Start at West Marine (boating superstore) on Rosecrans. Several tackle stores within walking distance from there. Just ask the sales people.

If you are staying at the Chula Vista Marina RV Park, they can give you great directions to many stores close-by.
Too bad you will miss they're Wednesday night Karaoke !! :lol:

I'm so confused :?:

I am armed with pages of printed material re: rods and lures (taken from prev posts) and am off to try and buy my hubbies Xmas presents...but now I am
thinking I should just give him some US funds and have him do the shopping himself on the way down. I wonder if the shops here in Victoria will have any of the "things" on this list????

They have some very knowledgeable salesmen; just tell them what kind of fishing he will be doing and what rods and reels he already has. They will set you up at whatever $$ you want to spend and send it to you before Christmas.

SquidCo sound interesting, but 13 Miles from Marina RV...Still maybe worth the taxi fare. Unless they have a very large parking lot I cannot drive my RV there.

I agree on Squidco, but also try SQC Tackle. Located under the Coronado Bridge. Call & they'll give directions. Real easy off the 5 freeway.

If you just need a few things, there is a decent tackle shop in the marina, 1 block from the RV park.
There is also a bus that connects to the trolley but I'm not certain how far it goes.

The Wall mart off the 15 has a decent tackle selection too. Plenty of parking also. chances are They will have everything you need.

Have hubby pick his own tackle. SD has best tackle stores for fishing baja. The further north of SD you are the more difficult it is to find a store that specializes in the right equipment and the smaller the available selection. Most of their customers are looking for advice for long range trips. That kind of advice is really not very useful if you plan to fish from shore or a tin boat in my opinion. Here's an example of how it goes for me:

Last year I wanted to fish salmon at Kodiak Island for the first time in my life. I found a small selection of salmon flies at Marriotts in Orange County and purchased some. When I arrived at Anchorage I found a much better selection and found my collection to be inadequate. Most were never used. I bought more in Anchorage and fished the mainland. When I finally landed in Kodiak I found their selection to be the best for their local waters and I bought a bunch more and used them exclusively. Moral of the story: I should have not bought anything until Kodiak. I wasted a lot of money and time 'preparing' myself.

This sort of thing happens to me all the time and I bet to many others. Everyone wants to sell you the 'secret' fly. But the best ones are those sold by the shops on the river that are working those last few days.
