Bruce R Leech - 12-14-2006 at 04:26 PM

today is a day that all of the foreigners that Live here around Mulege can relay be ashamed of them selves. I think 2 showed up for the Governors inauguration of the new bank. you all made so much noise about how much you needed a bank here and some people listened and promised you they would get it done. and then no one decided that it was worth while to support the people that worked hard to keep there promise. the Governor and other people that were there were very disappointed and I was disgusted by what happened. shame on you, I don't think the bank will last very long with this kind of support.

Just curiuos why the Governor showed up for the opening of a bank? I can't imagine Arnold showing up for the opening of a Wells Fargo. Also, isn't the bank a for-profit business? I'm a bit confused why people should feel guilty for not attending the ceremony. Please enlighten me as it must be a cultural difference.

Bruce, I share your sentiments.

because of all the squawking that the foreign residents people made to the Governor and others about there not being a bank here and having to drive to Santa Rosalia. He made a promise to them after the flood that he would find a way to get it done, and he did. and that is no easy task sense he has no power over the banks.

just curious ... is english your first language?
salut

Bajaboy - 12-14-2006 at 04:57 PM

Thanks for the clarification Bruce.

Zac

Bob and Susan - 12-14-2006 at 05:02 PM

the governor did make that promise and DID come thru...
he did an outstanding job!!!

for me it's just the wrong company...

CitiBank in the USA is associated with BanaMEX

Comerce Bank which most of the old retired people used was bought up by CitiBank...
Their retirement deposits go to CItiBank now

Bruce is a good asset to have in Mulege...
typing is secondary

A couple of years ago President Fox was set to open the Pemax fuel dock at Puerto Escondido. The death of the Pope canceled the deal. We were disapointed; we drove down there. These kind of events in Loreto are a lot of fun. Seems almost everything has a big ribbon-cutting ceremony. Sometimes the ceremonies and celebrations predate the actual work by months.

I agree with Bruce; bad form to have such poor representaion by the foreign community in what the local people think is important. And not good politics for our interests in general.

kiwi. I guess some of us are protective of Bruce's typing & spelling. It's not the first time that newbies like you take a "swack" at him. I've never found it necessary to ask that question of anyone. Any chance your a teacher by profession? Can't blame you for it then. It's "inbread" if that's the case. Otherwise it takes all kinds that make this board run. Just think about being kind. Does it really matter in the "whole scheme of things?"

roundtuit - 12-14-2006 at 08:46 PM

Kiwi, I guess all of us are not as smart as you, but for some reason we all seen to understand each other. Maybe that's because we are of an older generation where we knew what hard times really meath

I think Bruce is righ, if people were asking the governor to put in a bank, and he does it, why not at least show up and thank the guy. No no cultural difference, I did a yahoo search and typed in "governor attends grand opening" and wow

toneart - 12-14-2006 at 11:30 PM

I'm curious as to how much notice people were given and how the message was delivered. :?:

wilderone - 12-15-2006 at 09:30 AM

Thanks for the laugh, Kiwi.
And with as much #$%& as you all hurl, why are you picking on Kiwi?
And for what it's worth, I think Bruce is right too. If you're going to be part of the community, then do that. Quite an accomplishment I think - a politician's promise fulfilled. The news of this bank will spread quickly, and become important for all Baja travelers.

Diver - 12-15-2006 at 09:39 AM

Perhaps there is an address for the Governor that we could write our thanks to ??
This will be good for all and he needs to be applauded.

"clamati nino"???????????? what in the world is that?? do you make bloody mary's out of it???

David K - 12-15-2006 at 10:04 AM

I have the same question as toneart... Bruce is upset at lack of gringo attendance, but I only saw his report AFTER the event...? How was the English population notified before it happened? Do the Nomads at Concepcion Bay have another way besides Baja Nomad to learn of the governor's arrival and were they invited?

Bruce R Leech - 12-15-2006 at 10:39 AM

there were meetings before the event that no Americans attended. also for 2 days before the opening they announced it on the car with the loud speakers but the non Mexicans in this area wont allow them to go through there parts of town. If you are going to live here then it is your responsibility to stay in touch with your community. and not rely on the gringo grape line to keep you up to date. some of you might try going to some of the town meetings you would be more than welcome and the people of Mulege would start to think that there are some of you who really care about Mulege. every one wants the trash picked up or there fire put out but no on goes to the meetings that make these things happen.

Bruce

Baja Bernie - 12-15-2006 at 12:25 PM

You got the bat and you are knocking them out of the park on this thread.

Good on you!

"but the non Mexicans in this area wont allow them to go through there parts of town."

This drives me nuts and some of these same people say they like the culture and love Baja.....................their part of town , indeed!

[Edited on 12-15-2006 by Baja Bernie]

Bruce R Leech - 12-15-2006 at 01:09 PM

many love the culture as long as they can look across the river at it but when it drives in with there music playing and it isn't Peary Commo s/p. they take it like an invasion.
now I am not talking about all but it seems to be a majority.

Bob and Susan - 12-15-2006 at 01:31 PM

susan says there is a lot of traffic in town because of the new bank

someone is using it...

Cypress - 12-15-2006 at 01:37 PM

When I get down that way we're gonna be friends. Perry Commo brings on something similar to acid reflux.

abreojos - 12-24-2006 at 02:18 AM

One good thing has come out of this thread and that is for those who don't know how involved & committed Bruce is, if they have read this they do now. I don't live with the Gringo's hear either and I get the water vender, the Tamale guy, the pan man blasting their services on a loudspeaker everyday. I get the biggest kick out of the guys who push those ice cream carts around all day in the heat of the summer to squeak out a living and don't forget the hot dog & hamburger carts at night and the fruit guy in the morning. Somehow in it's crazy and unorganized organized way it all works and this country rates the 2nd happiest in the world with their live and let live attitude. This site has a spell checker and so what if Bruce doesn't use it! Anyone need some TP?

Russ - 12-24-2006 at 05:46 AM

Had friends go in to the NEW bank Fri. and they had no money. Or... they weren't exchanging it for dollars. Or ..... something...... New bank, No pesos, That's rich!

Bob and Susan - 12-24-2006 at 06:02 AM

no...

if the computer link to mexico city goes down they cannot exchange dollars for pesos

the bank ALWAYS has cash

your friends should have asked and waited:saint:

Always "wait them out"

[Edited on 12-24-2006 by Bob and Susan]

Russ - 12-24-2006 at 06:15 AM

That's nice to know B&S. Thanks I'll pass the word

Bob and Susan - 12-24-2006 at 06:23 AM

they should have gone to Bruce and Edith across the street....

it's like "restraunt row" or "miles of car sales" there to deal with money:lol:

bajalou - 12-24-2006 at 08:39 AM

Some Bancomer branches have limited hours for peso/dollar exchanges also.

A couple of times the Loreto Bancomer has been unable to make change for me: "No hay cambio." Or fill the cash machine.

Maybe it was strong north winds keeping the money barge from crossing.
