Hearing by way of the Baja Western Union and Baja Pony Express there is a gas shortage this weekend in BCS. Can anyone confirm?:
-------------------------------------------------------
Does anyone know what is going on with Pemex? All of Baja is now out of gas. My husband is stuck in Guerro Negro. If you get this message and are
leaving to go up or down Baja, forget it for a few days. No gas in Mulege, Loreto, Cabo, Santa Rosalia, or Guerro Negro. Yesterday by my husbands
report. THIS MORNING NO SIGN OF A GAS TRUCK. sharon (-at-) a36.org
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As of yesterday afternoon (Thu) there was no gas anywhere in San Jose-San Lucas or the surrounding areas. All stations are closed. Apparently the
barge is under repair and there will be gas by Saturday night. This information came from one of our local San Jose PEMEX operators, who also said
that there may be gas late tonight (Fri) but Saturday night was more likely. It's rumored that there is no gas in the entire state, however, I have no
way of corroborating this. Sabrina mail (-at-) sabrinalear.com
--------------------------------------------
As of 7:30 PM Friday, there was gas at the PEMEX in Todos Santos. All pumps were open, lines were about five cars long and the gas was a little slow
to pump. They had both Magna and Premium. The employees looked a little tired. - Alan and Debra
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We got gas in La Paz without much problem. I was out near the airport and Reed had no trouble. Some stations had lines but all were open. - Maryann
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAS SHORTAGE There is an article in La Jornada of Mexico City about our state gasoline shortage (80% of the state). The delay has been (again) the
ship from Salina Cruz, Oaxaca. - Erik

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rumors that the gas shortage was precipitated by a national PEMEX strike are false. The rumors that the problem was precipitated by the tanker
being late are true, although in the last 12 hours the problem has been made worse by panic-buying by the citizenry.
The best source for info in general here in Baja in this sort of situation is bcsnoticias.com, for those of us who read Spanish.
I have pasted the actual text below, followed by a link to the site. If nothing else this incident serves to remind us that the same isolation that
protects us from the problems of places like TJ and Mexicali also makes us incredibly vulnerable with only a completely overwhelmed two-lane highway
linking us to The Great North. Keep two jerry jugs of gasoline on hand in your bodega for such events and of course hurricanes. Guerrero Negro will of
course be the last to get their gasoline due to distance.

We just made the trip from Cabo to Loreto to San Diego and had no problems whatsoever getting DIESEL, but could have bought gas if we needed. We
also talked to some northbound and southbound travelers staying at Baja Cactus who had no problems getting gasoline. This is from Dec. 14th - 16th.
A little patience may be the key.
