Right about now Bedman and Emma are probebly putting the last touchs on their prime-rib feast for the all the folks camped at Gecko...then it's off
to primp and get ready for the dance at the Diaz compound, sigh....I sure hated to miss it this year .....
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE , from snowy Port Orchard Wa., we got 4"s last night (this is a rare thing)
Edie H. - 12-31-2003 at 06:25 PM
You're not alone Deb.......I'm still here too!! We had planned on going down the day after Christmas but the flu hit us pretty good and the thought
of camping in a tent in temps down in the low 40's didn't seem like something our old "bods" wanted to do. Maybe we'll be able to see all you guys
on a trip down sometime in the spring???? Happy New Year to you & your family!!!
Amature night
capn.sharky - 12-31-2003 at 06:41 PM
Debra--We are staying at home in Upland too. Too many drunks out driving around this weekend. But I am going south on the 17th for about a
month.....so its not too bad. We don't even have any snow to play in here in So. Cal.----just mud.
LOL! "amature night"!
Debra - 12-31-2003 at 08:13 PM
OH YEAH! I haven't been out in town for New Years Eve in I don't know how long! There is something so 'un-fun' about dealing with a bunch of
"yahoos" this time of year, so being the "dutiful wife and Mom" that I'am (yeah right,
) I spent the day drying wet 'snow-clothes' (load after load) and packing for the hubbies departure for Japan on Sat., ......woe is me!

Edie....so sorry to hear you guys got that dreaded flu! (double since it screwed up your Baja departure!) It's times like this when get feel an
added bonus deciding not to send my son to public school, we have had 3 schools closed down because of this ugly flu going around! The only thing
that I worry about is that Brendan is in "Upwards Basketball" this year (yes, Skeeter, Baptists, what a great orginazation!) and most of those kids
are public schooled (too many kids in too little space trading air,....and germs)...his practice yesterday had only 5 kids, there are 15 on the
team!......sorry to ramble all, but, since no one is here, I figure......."blah, blah, blah" is okay .....

Hey...I'm here....
jeans - 12-31-2003 at 08:23 PM
...watching paint dry.
Sunday is the 4th anniversary of closing escrow on my little hacienda. The bathroom has been unfinished ever since the remodel in the first few
months. I finally got fed up with it and got out the painting stuff...Oh well....better late than never!
I thought I would repost my account of New Years at Camp Gecko two years ago when DK & I did our 15 day trip. My, how the years pass!
"We opt not to go to San Francisquito in order to arrive at LA Bay before dark...New Years Eve. As it was, we had another flat tire outside of town.
We are honing our tire changing routine down to about 10 minutes. We see 4Baja & Whiskey Girl on their quads and know more good friends are close by.
Paulina greets us with a big, warm hug?I?m so glad to be with friends. I remember last year watching the board at New Years, knowing that many were
there. I had wanted to be a part of the ?group? as well in that magical place called BOLA. What a difference a year makes! We set up camp next to
4Baja, catch up on happenings since we last saw each other at BBBB2, and relax by the fire?saving our energy in order to make it to midnight at Doc?s
party, which will be starting soon!
15 Days in Baja - Chapter 10- Her Musings
Day 13 without wearing makeup. That?s no big deal for some women, but I was born with strawberry reddish/blond hair and no discernable eyelashes or
eyebrows. No makeup means the only color I have to my face are the dark circles under my eyes. But it?s New Years Eve?I get out my small makeup bag.
?Are you ready yet?? The quintessential male question. ?Just a minute, Hon?I?m putting on my eyebrows?. ?You take them off?? Sigh?.?Oh...nevermind?, I
say to myself? ?Eyebrows and lipstick?that?s as good as it?s gonna get?. And let?s forget that it?s been 24 hours since I last showered and I haven?t
done laundry for 13 days. I put on my cleanest dirty clothes and head to the party with my Trader Joe appetizers.
I met Doc & Sylvia?what delightful people. They are bright, unassuming and very warm?.and much younger than I expected?what some would call a
?handsome couple?. Doc told us about his experience with the Escalera Nautica people, which he has related here and he had a large collection of
reggae music for the boombox. People are gathering with covered dishes of food, salad, appetizers?.all to complement the HUGE prime rib Bedman
brought?cooked to perfection by his wife, Emma.
When camping, bedtime usually comes early. I was leery of being able to stay up that late. (but at home?I?m a night owl, rarely turning in before
midnight...go figure). But the evening, with good food and good people seemed to fly. I think I remember a conga line?was that me in front?
After the midnight was properly welcomed in with the party favors brought by Paulina, we piled into her car and drove into town to witness the local
scene.
Paulina greeted many of the friends she has made over the years and filled us in on who were the ?movers & shakers? in this tight knit community.
There were very few gringos there..the four of us being the biggest contingent. It was definitely a cultural experience, unlike anything I have
witnessed in recent years. Paulina also clued me in on the social ?do?s & don?ts of being an unmarried woman?not too much hip movement allowed when
dancing! At least the old custom of shooting guns into the air has been abandoned?no ducking for cover necessary. We head back to our camp after about
an hour of fascinating people watching and fall happily asleep.
The next morning brings another beautifully spectacular sunrise?I guess?I sure didn?t see it!! It was a slow morning for everyone, so I didn?t feel a
bit guilty for sleeping in. But campers get a bit stuffy & warm once the sun hits them, so that is what got me up. Besides?.we had some exploring to
do."
Happy New year's Everyone!
Jeans, thanks for posting that again.....

I did get a flu shot prior my trip to Loreto. Did'nt want to think about taking a virus such as that to possibly infect a newborn.Whats up with the
flu thing?I think there are different kinds of , don't you guys get the shots?(oh boy am I gonna get slammed for this !) BTW, Edie, there is a total
wall of letters tacked up on the board about Dawn in Juanitas internet cafe. will you E-me and let me know if there has been any progress with her
case/ release? New year good wishes for all mi amigos and nomigos alike. Sally

Too bad we didn't know, you had to have traveled less than a mile of my house! I would have made you a meal. This is why I wish more would post
where they live on their 'bio', then we could get together when going "to and fro" Next, time! There are several of us that live very close up here
and have met....It's fun to get to visit in person.....
Sheeze! Rancho Humfreville is my B & B!.....and as I've said before, I have an extra room also....any Nomad/Amigo is welcome to get ahold of me.
