Such a special place. A must trip for all.

San Francisco de Borja was founded in 1762 by the Jesuits (who were expelled 6 years later). The Franciscans are credited for building the adobe ruins (now partially protected by an awning). The Dominicans built the stone church and finished it (except for the bell tower) in 1801.

The mission was abandoned in 1818... too few natives left to keep it operating.

It is neat seeing palm groves in the middle of the desert, for sure! Where you see date palms, then know the padres were there!
