where do you like to go? we like anything - variety is great. I'm sure we'll want some cheap quick food on the way to the beach, as well as some nice dinners.

In El Rosario, for tacos: El Poblado (#5 ), for breakfast and dinner: Baja's Best (#38 )... Tacos Mision (#36 ) has great stuffed patatoes. For Machaca & Eggs, Antojitos Mexicanos Betty (#13)...

We used to go to La Bocana Beach Restuarant (#27) often, but a new cook was far below the previous in quality... these things can change, naturally!

Mama Espinoza's (#2) is usually good and almost a must see when in town... plus it is handy walking distance from the Baja Cactus Motel...

I can guarantee you will like JESSE's new place 'Las Tres Virgenes' (named after the volcanoes) in La Paz... His Tijuana restaurant was great!!

Also, I did eat at Mar Y Peña restaurant in La Paz and that was really good... but that was in December, 2001 (my last time in La Paz)!

Yah, Villadelfin, how about some reasons for the thumbs down? As I said, it was 5 years ago that I had a wonderful meal there as it was highly recommended by Tucker, who we ate there with.

Ok lets talk about restaurants first of all they have owners, then cooks, then waiters all this makes for a good restaurant if and change the restaurant changes sometime for the good sometimes for the bad. In La Paz you can go into a restaurant and have a great meal go back the next week different cook Blah, I happen to know one restaurant site here in La Paz that is in its 5th change in 12 years. So now tell me what good is a restaurant review.

Our thumbs down experience on Mar y Peña happened this past July. In spite of two of our friends each having had in their opinions very poor service, we tried them for lunch. We arrived about 1215 and sat at a table in the main dining room. The room was empty. Eventually a party of three businessmen came in and sat down as well. Our waiter gave us the menu and took our drink order. Diane had a beer and I ordered a limonada. We were stunned at the variety of seafood offered, and wondered how they could carry such a large inventory of fresh seafood, especially considering how un busy they were. That's beside the point. I ordered a shrimp dish with a spicy sauce, and I suggested Diane order lobster tacos. Sure, no problem...
My shrimp dish was more or less a watery shrimp c-cktail with what some people call salad shrimp. Diane's 5 lobster tacos were filled with a lobster salad. Some bits of lobster, alot of celery, onions, etc and mayonnaise.
Our bill was 450 pesos and believe me, the Mr. Taco or Tacos Trasviña on the highway in Centenario have tastier food. Hey, its just my opinion, but the only time I have had tasty, well-prepared seafood here in La Paz was when we went to Jesse's.

forgot to mention, the lobster tacos were either 220 or 280 pesos and the bill read, Langosta al gusto

Resturants are constantly changing over the years. Only a few remain as they once were. I say just try anyone you happen to be near. Most likely if there are many people eating there then it probably will be OK.

Try all the eateries bordering the malecon? There must be dozens along that route. Surely there must be a few that are still good for breakfasts, lunches, dinner? Over the years we have enjoyed meals at Hotel la Perla, La Pasta, Carlos y Charlie's (old and new), El Taste, the Dock Cafe, the Garden, and other older places I have forgotten. I forget ALL the newer names..sigh.

Is the Bismarck still open...the older one? That was always a great place for seafood...at least for us.

For a quick delicious meal, it is hard to beat some favorite taco stands...like the Baja California Tacos that used to be close to the Perla. Or another one named...Hermans? Hermanos? Hungry Hermans, maybe?

I don't know if the Bismark is the "old one" but wrk and I always go there for lunch when in La Paz and have their smoked marlin tacos...fabulous :bounce:

The taco stand is Gonzalez Hermanos. Still one of my favs.
Comitan..been to La Costa lately, I sure like their fish ball soup. Actually, I have never had anything there that wasnt wonderful.

Super Burro in Loreto is my favorite. Cheap and very good. Turn right across the street from the Pescador Marcado and right at the first corner. Great place.

I'm with you on La Costa Bajajudy. Love their food. The only problem we have had is that the wind can sometimes make it quite cool!!!
