I was at a gathering recently and was told there is a brand new toll road from just south of Maneadero to San Felipe. I was quite skeptical--maybe I
slept when we passed by it in October---but was told emphatically that it is there, and it saves a hundred miles over going through Tecate when headed
east of Yuma. The road is in great condition, as well. The road is on all the new maps, I was told. None of my maps show the road. And it seems
the terrain there is formidable. Maybe they were referring to Hwy 3 from Ensenada to Hwy 5. Is that a toll road now? Any input on this information?
I didn't want to argue too forcefully until I was sure I was correct that it didn't exist.

Too early for April Fool's Bob... and too late for the Mexican version Dec. 28th!
There is no new road, nor would there even be a reason for one (at this time) with Hwy. 1 south of Maneadero so busy it should be 4 lanes to San
Quintin.
just as I thought

Thanks, David K. We've driven this highway since it was first built, one round trip just about every year. I have never seen construction, heard
rumors, or even considered the possibility of such a road. The person who told me about the road was SO sure of herself, that I decided not to argue.
It has been bothering me ever since. Could I have totally missed something that huge?!
I feel better having you back me up.

You bet Bob... I am sure the first Nomad to spot a new road being built through the mountains would be posting about it right here. A project like
that would take years, anyway. East from Maneadero is a mountainside, not a place for a new toll road...
The road up to the observatory was supposed to be paved right after it was built, about 1970... It wasn't until 2005 when it got paved halfway there
(Meling Ranch) and more in 2006...
Keep posting the rumors, maybe there is some truth in them, somewhere!
Happy New Year!!

There is a new toll road, but it's from Mexicali to Algodones - San Luis - Yuma area. You can pick it up just South of Mexicali on the San Felipe
Highway. We pass by the on-ramp when we go to Mexicali, but have not used it yet. Others have said it's pretty good and by-passes lots of heavy
traffic!!

New toll road that 'baja 829' mentioned (at Hwy. 5)... we took it west to Hwy. 2 by the Pemex tank field not far from the Mt. Signal pass, east of
Laguna Salada.

Toll gate... just west of Hwy. 5

Unfinished overpass... toll road is only one lane each direction. This was last August...

Here's the close location of the west side of the new toll road that avoids Mexicali...
what was that again?

I am sure now the Mexicala-Yuma toll road is the one she was talking about. How it turned into a toll road from Maneadero to San Felipe we will never
know. She claimed she had been driving down here for 20 years...................Just reminds us to be careful who we listen to and what to believe.
Last week I was at the marina in Loreto and asked a returning fisherman how he did. He said they had a great day, lots of yellowtail and cabrilla.
Where were you fishing, I asked. Up there, he said, pointing north. Up there past the end of the land............................
