new construction

miherr - 1-7-2007 at 04:01 PM

Hello , we are new to BC.We are ready to build our retirement house. We are having a hard time finding local contractors that don't charge too much. We have a limited budget and are willing to help with the construction.Does anyone know a reliable reputable contractor that can work with us. Our property is in Playas de Rosario ,very close to Puerto Nuevo.
Thank you kindly,
Miguel & Margaret

Miguel -----
The days of the low-paid contractor in your area are over.
The days of the low-paid worker are over as well. Seems that the local economy has taken on characteristics of the near neighbor.
Do what you can do yourself. In fact, do it all yourself. If you dont know how, buy the books and the tools.
Im 65 and building my house, wood frame, with limited experience. It's coming along fine and Im never late to work.
Good luck with your project.

Good for you Miguel-----
Just remember, there's nothing you can't do.
Buena Suerte mi amigo. Let me know if I can help. Im only a six-pak away.

May God be with you, Miguel.

Miguel, you are going to have a great experiencel!... building, making mistakes, bandaging your fingers, creating your own paradise.

You are going to need a good sense of humor. Bring that out often, along with a lot of patience.

A great book to read during construction is God and Mr. Gomez.

Been there, done that...3 times..sigh.

Dennis...defintion of a six-pack: a support group.

You can certainly do all the construction yourself but:

It's important that you submit plans and get a building permit. Doing it all the "Mexican way" will eventually bite you in the beehind.

BajaBruno - 1-7-2007 at 08:18 PM

California home builders have laid off thousands of Mexican construction workers in the past few months, so finding help may get a lot easier in the near future, though I confess I have never met one who hailed from Baja.

Hello Nomads,
First a very sincere THANK YOU to all Nomads that took time to reply to us.Yes, we can see the do it yourself way to go but honestly we need to hire some contractors local,( we speak spanish fluently) for foundation and maybe some structure(outer walls of the house). Of course ,we are very respectful of the local workers and would pay an honest days work. So please ,if any Nomads know of trustworthy workers ..could we have name and cell number or home number??
We feel very grateful to have such a forum as this one to keep us informed on a daily basis . Again, Thanks & awaiting
(:saint:) reply. Miguel

If you speak spanish why don't you talk to some of the locals there perhaps someone with a building project who may be able to suggest someone. Be prepared for a few changes though, we've been through 3 ocntractors now as they start out with a good price and end up changing their tune later or not doing good enough work and we have to find a new one. It's common here and don't hesitate to fire one and find another. But if your find a good one, tip him and treat him good!

Sr. Miguel I'm 1 of those construction workers from the U.S.A. That
are currently out of work. And i live in Rosarito; i commute everyday (when employed) I would like to offer you my help and
my knowledge. Also i know a few good local workers that live here in Rosarito let me know if you found any help yet. By the way the username is my wife's not mine. Also the very first time that i post. Gracias
