Come help The Jewel of the Desert:
The community of Mulege invites you to join in the environmental cleanup of El Rio Santa Rosalia de Mulege, aka the Mulege River.
We'll meet under the bridge at 11 am on Sunday Jan. 28. Crews will move out to points along the south river road and gather trash to help clear the
shoreline and islands of the damage left by the flood. We'll work 'till 3 pm, mas o menos, as the low tide allows.
Along with your good cheer and smiling face, you might wish to bring garbage bags, gloves, work boots or galoshes, possibly a kayak, maybe volunteer
your pickup to transport the day's effort to the town dump.
The goal is to restore the beauty to Mulege one step at a time.

Glad to hear the river is getting attention. When I left Mulege before Thanksgiving the city-hired crews had cut back and stacked the dead mangroves
and woody debris for burning. They already had progressed a mile east from the bridge on the south side. Is that cleanup crew still doing that??
Can you be more specific on how the clean-up has progressed since then? I know that much trash and whatnot is concentrated in the area of the small
mangrove islands in the rio. Is the city organizing this or ? Thanx, Corky

This is a grass-roots effort by folks who love Mulege and its treasure, the river.
The municipality has been consulted and has given directives for this project. Ideally, our cleanup efforts will interface and compliment that of the
city crews.
This time it will focus on the hard-hit mangrove islands and south shore area. Volunteers will "beachcomb" for trash of all kinds and swimmers/divers
will explore the riverbed for debris brought down by September's flood. The request for kayaks is to transport volunteers to the islands.
See you there. Mulegena
Thanx in advance

Encouraging to know people are involved. I was totally amazed that the mangroves held back with all that force. I saw some already sprouting back.
Many folks think the mangroves added to the distruction by restricting the flow and thereby spreading and backing-up.
Anyhoo , good for you for doing this.
