Roll Up Garage Doors

I'm researching roll up garage doors for a friend in BCS (residential type, not the industrial type you see in front of stores etc). I've received quotes for him from all the usual places up here (U.S.), but I'm almost certain there is someplace in La Paz that sells (and installs them).

I also sent him the info Comitan posted a while back, http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=13448 , which should provide some good leads, but does anyone else know of any additional options Loreto or South?

He's looking for the type that runs back along tracks attached to the ceiling.

Good to know they are available. Thank you, I'll pass the word. I'm sure a trip to La Paz would be preferred to driving back to the U.S. and going through the import process.

They ARE available in La Paz, but check customer satisfaction before you commit to any particular supplier, like anywhere else there are good suppliers & bad.

In July 2004, I contracted with Juan Carlos Paredes Gonzalez, the owner of SIGLO 21, ALTA TECHNOLOGIA here in La Paz to purchase & install a 8' x 15' 6" roll-up door with an automatic garage door opener for $2,250 USD ($2,475 with IVA). I also contracted for remote control piston-driven car gates.

I was still fighting with him to get the work completed in January 2005, at which time I filed a complaint with PROFECO. IMHO, he's totally irresponsible! He installed the door originally with 2 damaged sections & tried to blow me off with "It's just a garage door, it'll get banged up sooner or later"! I advised him I'd paid for a NEW garage door! It took several months to get the damaged sections replaced. He flat refused to install the interior garage door opener button on the garage wall...told me I had a second remote I could use! He made appointments he never intended to keep just to placate me, failed to answer his phone and/or to return calls. In general, his attitude was thoroughly disrespectful, rude & dishonest. At one point in time, he left my remote controlled piston-driven car gates inoperable for 7 weeks! Now, if I'd have wanted to MANUALLY open & close the car gates each time I used them, would I ever have thought to pay for a remote opener system in the first place??? He also made inappropriate comments to me about my body (dirty old men have a hard time making some things come across as a compliment!) so I refused to be alone in his presence!! I imposed on friends to come over whenever he'd said he'd be there, so I spent a lot of one-on-one time with my friends! :lol:

Needless to say, I won't be using this guy again! Nor will he ever get a favorable recommendation from me or anyone I know! :fire:

(EDIT) IF a trip to the US & going through the import process were the only other option, personally, I'd take that route next time! :bounce:

There are however other local suppliers, I just haven't researched them yet!

Kate: He quoted in USD....supposedly because he's charged in USD since the products are imported from the US. I'd have laughed at "You're losing your white color"!! That's a much more acceptable comment than I received!

Larry: He's NOT the only show in town! I just haven't gotten to the point where I need to start researching my LAST garage door yet! :bounce:

So I'd appreciate it if you could ask your friend who he/she/they used & post it if it's more positive than my experience....but come on...what WOULDN'T be more positive than my experience?????????? :biggrin:

My friend who is looking for the garage door is going to use the info I sent him from this board to start some inquiries in La Paz. As soon as he gets/installs the doors, which should be fairly soon, I'll post how it went...hopefully good.
