i saw a nice one at costco in ensenada
of course it was NEW....
our electric one is working fine on solar and batteries
new fridgs are really low energy and are made way better

Bob, Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't even considered an Electric fridge till I read your email. I know a few of the guys at Gecko use the small
freezers, but didn't even consider it for a fridge.
ANYBODY have any PROS or CONS on the fridges?

Excellent advice and information. I have insulated Ice chests befor, but it never crossed my mind to do the same for a Fridge.
Looking closer at the Electric models now.

we bought ours a costco in ensenda...about $800
a little smaller than our unit in the states but regular size
maybe 14cf
top freezer
uses 126watts when running
it's on number 3 now
this summer it was on number5
DO NOT get the brushed steel look...finger prints everywhere
we goofed
go electric way easier to run
EVERYONE i've talked to has problems with propane

Thanks for the insight. Now, I'm thinking Electric is the way to go. Sounds as if many many people are using Electric. And Costco is right on the
way. For some reason I had already decided to go Propane. Hmmmm? Maybe it's time I joined Costco!!

Our COSTCO USA membership card works in Ensenada. Maybe it's the combination membership/credit card that doesn't work???.

I have a Propane fridge for sale. It is a Servel fridge freezer combo and it is the home model in a white steel cabinet. 1000 US

the cards are supposed to work at any Costco. I have used mine everywhere and have never been questioned.

Have used US Costco cards in Mexicali Costco for about 12 years - no problems. Also use my Mexico Sams Club card in US locations with no problems.

I too have both cards and have used them both places . U.S Cards in Mx. Mx. cards in U.S. Either way works for me!

We have a very large (6-1/2' tall) Fridigidare electric frig/freezer, uses 4.2 amps -- works perfectly with our solar, but we still have our propane
in the garage which always seems to work. The elec. requirements are usually posted inside the frig, bottom left or right hand side. When we got
this I just went down the line, opened them, checked amps, and stopped to really look when I found those with 4 or 5amps. Many of our neighbors in
the South Campos have them as well. Much easier to say the least, except on cloudy days -- then it's generator time! But in the summer, the propane
standby struggles as well.
Costco and Sam's Club memberships are honored on both sides of the border. Sometimes they must be scanned the first time they're used in MX, but they
work. Also, renew in MX., the cost is $10-$15 less and the card is honored in US.

I have the same gas fridge as Bruce. Actually two of them. Although they are distributed by Dometic They have the Servel quality. They aren't too
roomy so I got two. They have worked well during the summers where the electric ones run almost all the time during our hot season. If you have solar
troubles or concerns maybe you should consider gas. The freezer part is big for that size. They aren't cheap $1500. Sun Frost is a very good electric
and can be configured in different ways to fit your needs.

Lot to be said for both electric and propane fridges. If you have a large enough system to support the electric fridge, a back up gen for the cloudy
days then that might be the way to go. Be suspicious of the usage shown on the yellow tags, they lie a lot !
The new larger propane fridges, now up to 19 cu ft, are very efficient and maintain excellent cold temps.
Beware of used propane fridges unless you know the history of the machine, especially the older servels which now are aprox 50 plus years old.

Thannks, for everyones input.
I've been toying with the idea of buying an RV frige. They run on 12 volt, 110 volt and propane. The only problem I can forsee is the cabinet for
them. Theyre designed to be installed in the wall of an RV and Vented to the outside (intake and exhaust). They're more readily found and cheaper than
the Servel types. But, they're smaller. Seems like 8 cu ft. is about the average. Just about the same size we have in the motorhome.
Any comments about this New and Revised thought?
