This is something I have to do. I have dreamed and planned the event many ways and many times. I think it would be the ultimate trip.
The idea would be to try to stay along the coast as close and as best I could. That would mean being in some pretty remote places at times. Using
topo maps and Google and of course GPS info the trip could be quite exciting and rewarding. And long!
I can imagine visiting the places that Nomads have talked about. Talk about getting to know Baja and the people! Think about the cool diving, fishing
and swimming beaches you'd visit. Without a soul around for miles!! Ponder about those fishing experiences you'll find. Catch your meals regularily.
Trade or buy fresh shellfish and shrimp, bugs etc as you go from the locals.
The whole trip would be a real adventure. It could take 2-4 months. Places like Mallirimo and El Barril would be on the list and of course those
secret places only you and a 1000 others know.
One idea was to set a minimum distance(as the crow flies) to travel daily. That would mean you could make up miles later on easy stretches if you hafd
time constraints. The other "destination" theory is probably the best approach for those with more time. Getting to enjoy the waypoints and hangin'
with the locals more.
It would be great to document the trip for sharing later. We could get an idea of the current "state of affairs" as seen up-close and personal.
Personally, I try to get info for going to places more candid and off-the-beaten-track. Gives you a certain "high" and you feel good with your
accomplishments because you feel it's special. It is special.
You must realize that proper vehicle and gear are in order and be keen and wise and use the common sense that got you there, because you'll most
likely need it.
The list is long but for most of us dirt savvy folks we're used to packing thoroughly for a semi self-sustaining trek. One item though not necessary
would be a internet uplink. Like the Toadandturtle you could update us anchored Nomads as you went. Relaying info and making us lust for same. Think
how much fun the forum would have too.
Ok enough of that!
I've got some serious catching up to do this year but I'll be back out there.

Never thought of this kind of trip for BAJA.....but still want to do this in the USA....baja would sure be an adventure......

I've done that kind of intensive exploring in certain areas but the whole peninsula would be awesome...my ultimate job would have been to work for AAA
doing their mapping survey.

Over the years I keep banging away at it in sections and have never had any problems. Just met alot of great folks and have lots of fond memoties.

I thought you were putting the plan together and looking for a small group of like vehicles to make up the expedition. I remember the peace of mind I
felt years ago when we traveled with other well prepared people. I think the day-dream can be expanded to some thoughts of the kinds of toys that
might be available to share if most participants brought something different. We'd have land yachts for the big beaches and dry lakes. Someone else
might have ATVs, and the list goes on.
Well, it was a nice diversion from thawing frozen pipes.....
Say Corky...don't I remember you made your last trip south in a Dodge Cummins turbo diesel?

i have the time and maybe the truck. i always wanted to copy carlos fiestas boat trip around baja. i can do the truck trip first.

that would be a HEMI. Although those brothers with the
over-priced-hard-to-find-in-Baja-diesel-fuel Dodges are pretty damn cool with all the upgrades possible.
I have had plans together to explore that sucker from head to toe for a long time. Just need mo time and money! I'm hoping for a new mindset in
peoples spending.
That reminds me.........

All I can say in defense of my six with the chip was that at 1250 miles into our trip the computer was giving me a 26.6 mpg. I wonder if it could be
done. If you could drive from the border to Santa Rosalia on one 35 gal. tank? I liked it.

I did a trip down the pacific side years ago with the intent to stay off the highway and as close to the coast as possible the whole way. took a month
to get to cabo,and I felt like I rushed it..DK got it right, "so much Baja, so little time"

this is a good undertaking and will take a lot of planing. unfortunately I think that an adventure like this is not possible if you get to many people
involved. If I were to do this I would plan on doing it my self and invite Nomads to fallow along if they wish for as long as they like. but to have
any chance of completing this trip one person must control the route and schedule.

Sharks, takes some planning: Have David K ask google earth if they'll sponsor the trip, he can follow you taking shots from space as you travel.
Then you write up the journey as a journal, I'll edit it for free, you do the photo art, Baja Bernie can publish the book for you, maybe get enough
book revenues for publication and gas money. "Hungry Shark Eats up Baja"

Some of my most memorable trips have been along the coast with not one soul in sight. We circumnavigated the Vizcaino Peninsula a few years
back....that was awesome. While I am on the subject, if you havent done any exploring around Vizcaino, put it on your to-do list.
Sitting here thinking about this trip makes we want to hit the road...
