Thought I'd pass along this E-mail I received yesterday from Jack W6/VE3EED. Pete & June were long-time cruisers in Baja - over 25 years!!! (maybe
somebody could forward this info to Juan y Juan - I know Pete was close to them & I can't find any contact info on their website) ...
I am sad to report that Pete (KA6AXW) passed away at about 6AM this morning, January 24, 2007.
As some of you know, he has had emphysema for quite a long time. He was in the hopital since (I believe) last Friday; so thankfully, it was short and
sweet and not much pain. We will all miss him and his unusally quick wit.
June called me this morning and, during out conversation she told me this story which I have to pass on to everyone. During his first day in the
hospital, many times they asked the question of what liquids he preferred. His answer was always the same. "Whiskey". Finally, one of the doctors
asked him how much he had per day and if it was every day, etc. He told her 2 drinks. June, standing behind him, held up 4 fingers. The doctor then
told him, "I don't want you to compound the problem by having withdrawals; so I'm prescribing 2 drinks per day". They went and got his favorite
whiskey and that's the way it was.
May God rest his soul. He just turned 78 a couple of weeks ago.
