Here's a GREAT fishing guide

This is an un-ashamed commercial for my good friend Jesus "Chuey" Bastida. I've known Chuey for more than ten years. (Years ago I was helping him with his outboard and found that no two of the spark plugs were the same brand OR heat range.) He's come a long way through hard work and a great attitude. He now has a superpanga and a 100+ HP motor. Chuey probably knows the waters between Loreto and Mulege as well as anyone does. He's a "people" person, and although he works in Spanish, he's great with people who have a minimal command of the language. The smile...I'll just say that it is so permanent that when you might see him NOT smiling, you immediately think that something could be be wrong!

People staying on the Bahia Conception frequently drive over to San Nicolas just to fish with Chuey.

He's easy to find. His palapa is right in the middle of the Bastida compound closest to the playa on the South side of the arroyo.

San Nicolas Sport Fishing...he has a couple of signs in English. His personality and expertise are easily worth the drive. Tell him that Perry and Cathy sent you, he'll give you a free.......smile.

His sweet wife Pepa works for the schools in Loreto.

I don't know Woody. My guess is a little below Loreto prices, but no higher. Honestly, I have gone in the past for a can of gas, a few Pesos and friendship.

I have a friend in the village who checks e-mail in Loreto, I can ask, but it will be a while for an answer.

Yeah, well, if I was able to fish every day of my life out of San Nicholas, I'd have a smile like that, too. :bounce:

Thanks for the tip.

I like it.....some promotion for the remote pangueros.

Things have been pretty rough for some of these guys with the down-turn in business because of the problems up north.

If Chuey isn't available, his brother Teri (short for Terible, given him as a kid) is also very good. Teri would also love to take you diving. (no air) He's a good spear fisherman, and also a lot of fun. (and a new Grandpa)

In Mulege my money in on Mateo. Has been fishing the waters for over ten yrs. His fish finder is built in his head and requires no battieries, maybe recharged with a cervaza/ Good for yellows, dorado and other game fish. Prices are quite reasonable.
