FINALLY - Off to BAJA

Bajalover - 1-30-2007 at 09:49 AM

Okay it's white knuckle time to take on the narrow roads to find paradise on the beaches of Bahia Papellon, Bahia De Los Angeles, and maybe further south to Guerro Negro to do some whale watching from a kayak :bounce:

Since I'll need alittle room on the road - shall follow someone so they can run interference for me on the roads ie: big big semi or hugh rv :yes:.

After reading all the threads on kidnapping, corrupt police, folks rolling off the road due to narrow roads, and lastly the good beaches, tastee fish tacos, wonderful camping places, - to odds of making it safely look pretty good.
I hope I don't draw too much attention with my Coors Can Condo. Shall post the results in a timely manner. Chao for now:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Have a safe trip. One suggestion, you could paint your Coors can to resemble a Tecate can. Less noticable in Baja. Jimmy Smith (DEP) once told me that Tecate is the Baja state flower. You will see them blooming all along the side of the highway.

Saludos!

Don't worry, it will be a piece of cake. Just take it reasonably slow and easy and obey the signs, especially in towns. The problems in Baja are greatly overstated. You will see hundreds of people down there doing exactly the same thing you are (trailer and kayak) just chilling out.

Enjoy! Have a cerveza and put it on my tab.

Just to let ya know...you cannot kayak with whales in the Guerrero Negro Lagoon...strictly prohibited and you will have your kayak confiscated and be given a hefty fine too. You can however kayak with whales just north of there if you go to Laguna Manuela, enter at Jesus Maria...it is not in the Biosphere Reserve. Just be careful...sometimes kayakers approach whales quietly which is a bad idea...the whales need to know you are coming and where you are so it's good to make noise with your paddle banging on your boat so you don't surprise them...they have been known to tale slap at kayaks when taken by surprise...be extra careful if they have calves with them...enjoy.

What about kayaking off Malarrimo near the inlet, is that allowed?

Thanks for everyone's input. You can't imagine how happy I am to be part of this forum giving me advice so I can help someone in the future.
Thanks, Thanks.
No - I don't want to become a problem for whales. Will make lots of noise and stay far away. Just want to take photos with a tele lens. Shall post the results....
brgds.
