A Whales Tale

shari - 2-10-2007 at 05:41 PM

This is a poem I wrote in the lagoon Ojo de Liebre...and is in my book "Amazing tales of humans and whales" hope you like it..

GIANT FOOTPPRINTS TELL THE TALE
OF WHEN… AND WHERE… WILL SURFACE… A WHALE.

FIRST COMES THE SPOUT, A PLUME OF MIST
RISING HIGH AND RAINBOW KISSED.

DARK SHINY BODY GLEAMING BRIGHT
SURFACES……WHAT AN AWESOME SIGHT!

WITH GRACEFUL STROKES OF FINS AND TAIL
SHE DIVES TO FEED…..THE MIGHTY WHALE.

THEN FROM THE DEEP, A HUGE HEAD SPIES,
A CURIOUS WHALE SHOWS OFF HIS SMILE.

ANOTHER BREACHES TO MEET THE SKY.
THE SPLASH CAN BE SEEN FOR MILES AND MILES.

THESE GENTLE GIANTS HAVE MUCH TO TEACH
TO THOSE WHOSE MINDS THEY’RE ABLE TO REACH.

FOR THE WHALES HAVE LEARNED TO FORGIVE AND FORGET….
IN TURN WE OWE THEM THE UTMOST RESPECT.

WE REAP WHAT WE SOW, SO IF WE’RE TO SURVIVE
WE MUST SEE THAT THESE CREATURES ALSO THRIVE.

TO SAVE THE WHALES AND THEIR HABITAT TOO,
WE MUST CHANGE OUR WAYS IN ALL THAT WE DO.

FOR WE SHARE THE SAME AIR AND WATER AND SUN
WE ARE ALL CONNECTED

WE ARE ALL ONE.

I'm so glad some of you liked my poem, it's the shortest one I've written...and I wasn't going to dare share it as I was afraid of the nasty comments that may result...so thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. There has been a constant parade of grays passing in front of our house all day everyday now...a joy to see and always brings a smile to my heart.

Lot of history on that tail!

Tomas Tierra - 2-12-2007 at 09:53 AM

akmost looks like a few giant squid sucker marks on that tail....don't think the Greys eat those though?? not sure

shari - 2-12-2007 at 05:41 PM

Actually what those sucker marks are are scars from barnacles that have fallen off. These barnacles by the way are indigenous to gray whales...not found anywhere else on the planet! Also the tips of her tail have been chewed on by orcas too.

Tomas Tierra - 2-12-2007 at 06:50 PM

hows abouts them whale lice??!! I can remember having those things all up in my cuticals and the little scrapes on my hands after scratching a Grey Whale...TOUGH LITTLE BUGGERS!! and they know how to chew! My panguero was laughing histerically
