In California...

brakes are required on any trailer having a gross weight of 1500 lbs. or more.

Bob and Susan - 2-11-2007 at 08:25 AM

that trailer i had made for mulege
it's going to be a water tank trailer
i'll just have to drive slow

my boat trailer has smoked several times...
until i upgraded to disk brakes

very good bruce hahahahahah
:lol::lol::lol:

Years ago we almost bought the farm on that grade. The truck driver cut the curve and suddenly we were facing his flat bed trailer headed toward our windshield. Fortunately, we were on the mountain side and our little old Toyota climbed part way up the mountain sideways.

But when we met a caravan head on, we did pull over and waited. Wish I had pictures of some of the drivers in their monster motorhomes headed down that grade for the first time.:yes:

Baja SOON

Too many "Parachute Grade" stories. My worst ever moment on HW 1.
A tank of bad gas in Mulege, almost to the top of that hill, filters overloaded, stalled out, tried to gack to safety, jack knifed my utility trailer, inadequate visibility in BOTH directions. I ran up the hill JUST in time to stop the semi. You can't call it an adventure if there is no uncertainty.

Capt. George - 2-11-2007 at 06:55 PM

ooooh, your so macho!

read any good GK books lately?

Dodge truck brakes

Sharksbaja - 2-11-2007 at 08:00 PM

used to suck. My old PW went thru brakes regularly. I don't know how much weight I pulled down that grade w/o trailer brakes last time but I'll tell you it was a lot All I had was a little fade. God bless Dodge trucks.

Diane, your dog looks very intrigued. Is he yawning or commenting?

Amen to that sharks

BAJACAT - 2-11-2007 at 08:39 PM

three years with my truck and just replace front ones, rear still ways to goo..(2004 quadcab ram 1500).

Bob and Susan - 2-11-2007 at 09:00 PM

75,000 miles till i had to replace brakes and then...

i had to tell the guy to "just do it" still had 5-6000 left

new trucks are "just better"

Capt. George - 2-12-2007 at 03:21 AM

jdtrotter, Diane? well excuse me please!

that's a fine lookin husband you have there.

Whistler, maybe I'll give you a fair chance...I'll bring my Honda Civic down for that race!

Bruce R Leech - 2-12-2007 at 07:41 AM

I pull my trailer every time I go north and I have never had to replace my brakes. when I come to a grade I put it in a gear that will hold it all the way down and just let the engine do the work.

My recomendation to an enterprising Mexican, would be a drive in underpants changing station and seat cleaning service at the bottom of that grade!!!!

bajabass - 2-12-2007 at 11:31 AM

A good thing to do is keep your rear drum brakes adjusted all the way up and use that transmission!!! Love that burning smell!!! $$$$ for me !!!
