Is this true: Most (stock)gas cars and trucks seem like they have a gas range similar to each other. In other words gas tank sizes are increased proportionally to the amount of engine suck. I get somewhere between 240-280 miles to the tank depending on where what and how.
How many miles do you get in your rig per tankful?

16 gallons and my record is 400.....straight u.s. freeway driving.

300 miles 'normal driving', more if all highway... That's when I fill it, but there is always 1-2 gallons still in the tank, so that would make it about 315-335 mile range.

20 gallon tank and 15.5-17.5 MPG, 4.0 litre V-6 2005 4 door Tacoma, 4wd.

Super Duty 4wd V-10 crew cab long bed with 4:30 gears, 35" tires and lumber rack.

9.16 mpg driving from San Diego to San Felipe and back (average without towing, but loaded with gear)

Towing my triple axle 20' flatbed trailer loaded with lumber, off road truck, or toys: 7-8 MPG

So, about 366 miles on a 40 gallon tank.

My Rv holds 80 gal and if I keep it at 65 it will get 9.5 =760.
I usually plan my stops to where the cheep gas is.
My EXC300 gets 20 mpg(ridden hard) and holds 4 gal = 80 miles
my klr650 gets 65 mpg (ridden easy) and holds just short of 7 gal =450

My 90 suburban 35" tires 4.11 gears averages about 11 mpg. in baja 37 gallon tank = 407 per tank. Driven fwy loaded with people and gear on our way out to the river get 13.3 = 492 per tank. These calculations are using super unleaded.
My suzuki samurai 24 mpg around town 10 gallon tank = 240 per tank.

My Isuzu Trooper gets 20 to 23 MPG (depending on speed), and holds almost 19 gals of gasoline.

My F-250 with the 460 engine gets 10 mpg, no matter what, and holds 38 gals of gasoline.

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad-cab 4x4 5.9 ltr/360 c.i. gas hog. 24 gallon tank - 250-260 miles.
KLR650 dual sport motorcycle - 6.1 gallon tank ~60mpg. Over 300 mile range. (bulletproof)
I like my ram but would not recommend it as the ultimate Baja rig. Range is king in Baja. Good topic Sharks!

20 gallon tank and 15.5-17.5 MPG, V-6 2003 2 door Tacoma, 4wd.
But if I have my kayaks on top it gets 12-15MPG
I think also the tires I have on now give me lower gas milage.
Drove my Toyota Echo to Cabo and back and to BOLA and Loreto a bunch of times 35MPG 12 gal tank I think. I could always get 400 miles per tank just could'nt go in the dirt much

Dodge Cummins turbo diesel with the two stage Bully Dog Chip. 35 gallons in the tank. It isn't cool to risk running out of fuel with that engine, but I'm sure I can get close to 600 miles. I've measured 500 and when I filled, there was still 2 1/2 gallons in the tank. According to the Dodge digital goodie on the rear view mirror, I got 26.6 driving through Baja. 45 to 65 MPH. Yeah, I'm sold. Too bad the price of diesel went up in Mexico!

2005 F-250 Super Duty with 6 liter turbo diesel and Bullydog tuner. 16 mpg x 38 gallons = 608 miles. The price of diesel down here is about $1.82 per gallon. That works out to a little more than 11 cents per mile.

My H1 carries 42 gallons (25 in the main, 17 in the aux) and gets 10mpg, so I have about 400 miles with no reserve.

BajaDanD if you laid the kayaks flat for aerodynamic lift you might double your gas milage.

1982 Chev Silverado Crew Cab 1 ton dually 4x4 with built 454 and with a 9' overhead camper. Back seat in the truck cab removed and fitted with a 120 gal. fresh water tank and 30 gals. water storage in camper.Total 150 gals fresh water. Three 20 gal. fuel tanks and only 5 to 6 to maybe 7 mpg, on a good day. Can go 95 mph. uphill over Siskou Pass and out run the Oregon State Troopers. You only live once!! :biggrin:

2000 jeep cherokee 4 liter 20 gal tank i fill up at 3/4 tank and @ 300 miles fwy driving get 20 mpg at 70 over the rockies, stock except fro air filter and flowmaster ,but am getting rid of flowmaster noisy

Whistler...I suspect you are correct. Although I do have the 24 valve engine in the 2001.5 year model. Stock tire size and gear ratios. Also on this trip we were VERY light. Probably less than 700 lbs. in the bed, not counting the fiberglass shell.

I've been told that the calibration of the digital read-out was set on the conservative side by Dodge, but given all the other lies we are told about EPA approved expected fuel economy...quien sabes!

I'll be doing the drive again in 12 days, this time I'll do the math.

I DO know that the instantaneous read-out of consumption drops significantly when running in OD at speeds of 50 and under. No surprise.

I also suspect that this Cummins likes Mexican diesel. When comparing the digital information in similar driving situations, I can not do as well on US diesel.

Heck, I sold a 460 Ford, I'd still be tickled pink to be getting just TWICE the mileage!

ok.....my "off road" vehicle gets about 12.5 nautical miles a gal straight cruise (times 1.15 factor if you want statute)
at 155 knots airspeed, about 180 MPH. and with 6.5 hours endurance with a 30 minute reserve past that, i can go about 1100 miles.
another way is my 86 total gal tanks at 12.5 NMPG = 1060 nautical miles before I have about 25 minutes to find some place to land!! :lol:

32 ft Southwind 454 engine fully loaded and probably a little overloaded towing a Pathfinder about 4.5 miles to the gal. 90 gal fuel tank, without the Pathfinder around 5.5 miles per gal.
Pathfinder 4x4 with 3.0 liter engine and auto tranny 20 miles to the gal. if I keep it at 65 or below, 20 gal tank

F150 getting about 280 to 300 depending on the type of driving. in the city it is usally the 280.

2004 RAM 1500(quad model).,4x4,with HEMI.Getting 305 miles-/+ on my 26 galon, running with 89 octane if I used lower octane fuel I get around 285 miles and have less power.

Ford Excursion, V10, 4.30 gears. 44 gal tank, 14MPG@ 70MPH = 616 miles. I've driven many times from Dana Point to Carson City with a few gallons to spare.
