what's the consumer cost of electricity in Mexico?

elfbrewery - 2-21-2007 at 10:24 AM

Can anyone tell me --
The standing charge and rate per Kwh for electricity in Mexico?
Is the rate the same throughout the country, i.e., is the cost different in Ensenada from that in Mulege?
Are there any installation or other miscellaneous charges?

Thanks for your input!

For Mexicans, or Gringos?

Rates are on a sliding scale. The more you use, the higher the price per kwh. Here are the prices as listed on my last bill.

KWH Price in pesos

150 0.619
250 1.019
352 2.157

These are the prices listed on my bill here in Loreto, it may vary.

Good info so far. How about standing charge (that fixed amount you are charged even if you use no electricity) per month?
Cheers!

Central Mexico (mainland) is much less, as is propane and other utilities.

What's the cost of doing without?:O

Thank you for all your replies. More info is still welcomed. I'm trying to work out how much electricity will cost if I switch from a generator source (not mine) to the power grid. Solar could be an option, but I'm not ready for that, yet.

What is electricity, CFE? Been on solar 11 years. No bills other than 80 pesos a month for distilled water.

I'm with you. I am producing 7 KW per day and floating at noon. No problem supplying an 18 cu/ft and 22 cu/ft refers, 2 computers, modem, printers, av equipment, etc..And we don't get those annoying monthly bills

Todos Santos
Basico...........150 x 0.621
Intermedio...100 x 1022.0
Excedente....423 x 2164.0

Energia........ 1110.72p
IVA. 10%..... 111.07p

Bob and Susan - 2-21-2007 at 05:07 PM

let's do the math...

let's say electric bill is $122 a month
12 months = $1464 a year

a good whole house solar setup = $30,000

breakeven 20 years

i won't live that loooong:saint:

i'd take electric from a company EVERYTIME:light:

I very seldom get a bill for over $40.00 per month in Loreto. Only when its hot and I am using my two air conditioners. Don't forget, with solar you have to replace batteries from time to time. Like California, the more electricity you use, the more you pay.

Can't swear to the CURRENT monthly minimum, but 3-4 years ago when I paid bills for a part-timer neighbor, it was $20 pesos for zero usage for a two-month billing cycle.

elfbrewery - 2-22-2007 at 07:38 AM

Al G,
Thanks for the facts. Is your bill monthly/bi-monthly or something else? If you could supply the actual KwH you used over that period I might be able to figure out how your bill is calculated. I really appreciate the help and all those details.
Thanks again!

Elf, you're trying too hard. First, the rates vary as to the zone and use, next comes the $ for disignation under the mesa. Then, for our state, last year, for 6 bimesters we got a 65% discount from the Governor (in my case a whopping $100 U.S. dollars a month)-- this last bimester the discount went down to 35%.
