Wonderful pictures, Judy, and a great idea to shoot those cactuses up close.

My favorite, though, is titled "The End". That one really grows on you. I can look at that one forever. From the organ pipe to the rock details to the licen to those teensy branches. Interesting to me because I would pass up that shot without thinking twice. Good seeing, Judy. A very restful image, ... and yet fascinating.

Eye pleaser teasers

Judy
You got to get closer. Lencho has the right idea.
This is one of the first pictures I took here in Baja about 10 years ago.

Good thread Judy-- and of course all others who contributed.

Are those lichens on the cactus in your first shot ?

Really like Bob H s' "more green!"

Those of you that certainly have a particular knack for composition should start cataloging this stuff-- ie . "spines"

Love looking at the fine details in life

lencho
The small hairy spines are called glochids. Worse than the big needles. Many cactus have them.
That particular Cardon was very young, about 4 feet tall and growing quickly. That is why they were so visible. As the cactus gets older they are shed when the cactus gets too dry or blown off by the wind.

BajaSedoso - 2-24-2007 at 09:57 PM

This one was taken just seconds after one of my friends contemplated what it would be like to climb up a cardone and almost put her and right on the spines.

Took this shot on a rainy day in February in the arroyo just south of El Rosario. I'm not sure what it is. Light was overcast.
