Please provide road condition information, and is there any gasoline available in this area. Also, is there any problem tent camping along this area.
Does this area provide enough whale viewing, or should I go to Scammon's Lagoon also? If so, what boat/captain would you recommend?
If there are any great spots to visit in this area, please let me know.

Offroad.
Road conditions constantly change.. but generally washboard unless there has been rain.. the can get rougher... Camping along the way. Gasoline
available ... out of cans in the smaller towns and Abreojos.
I have watched the whales from along the beach.... but for a boat and up close view you probably need to go with one of the whale watching tours.surfer jim - 2-23-2007 at 11:21 AM

How is the surfing, diving, snorkeling?
Also, from the satelite shots it looks like there is a fairly large community there. Are there alot of people around? How big is the community in

BAHIA TORTUGAS has right around 2,000 + or - people. The population varies with availibility of work and in this case it is with Fish, Lobster or
Abalone.There are a few hotels spread through town along with several restaurants.
Camping outside of town along the coast is usually acceptable.
One of my favorite places is just EAST of PUNTA EUGENIA where you can have your own little cove to yourself.
Visability is usually limited for snorkeling and diving when there is surf but some of the best surfing in the area is just 5 miles off the coast of
PUNTA EUGENIA.
ISLA NATIVIDAD was the center spread in SURFER magazine in AUG '93. The break is just right ... for a long ride. When the storms come from the SOUTH
... the waves hit the island for that perfect ride.
It is a great place to hang out in NOV, DEC, JAN, and FEB. You could eat LOBSTER every night ... if you tried.
Ascuncion to Abreojos

Road from Visciano to turn off to Bahia Asuncion is paved, but be careful and there are some big pot holes. Beginning of paving to Asuncion so at the
first part of the road, it is a little rough---just slow. Good road until close to town and then washboard.
Asuncion to Hipolito (sp) is VERY good. From There we started on a great mud flat road, but weren't sure so we returned to the main road----quite
washboardy---should have stayed on the mud flat as it connected much further down after most of the washboard. Only saw one vehicle and it was on
the mud flat road.
Road smoothed out more until near La Bocana---washboard. After La Bocana there was a split---one for the main road, and one for the mud flat---we
quickly chose the mudflat and it was great. Connected into the middle of town. Of course if rain was any where near, it would be a different story.
Incredible views---just wonderful and well worth it!
Home soon---yesterday San Borja---in one way and out the other.
So much Baja---need to return home too soon, but hope to be back in a month or so.

Road conditions just got better as the rain smoothed out the washboard. There are gas pumps in Tortugas, Asuncion, La Bocana and Abreojos...get it
while you can as sometimes they run out for a day while the truck goes to get more. Great camping, watch the tides though...lots of whales on the
outside but Ojo de Leibre is world class stuff and unbeatable and well worth the $40. Stop in and have a cold one with us in Asuncion...we're at the

on the map? Also, is there a secure area to park my open Jeep while on the boat?

If you are heading south,The turn off is on Mex 1 south of Guererro Negro. you dont need to go into town. Keep going past the GN turnoff after a few
miles you will see a sign on your right with a whale on it. Turn there and follow the road there will be signs along the way. the road takes you out
to the whale watching place there is a parking lot with a guard shack a resturant and office there are campgrounds there too. I have left my truck
with all my stuff in the back in the parking lot and never had a problem. I doubt vary much that there would be any stealing going on around there.

When you go to Ojo de Liebre make sure you tell the gate keeper and the ticket office guy you are mi amigo and they'll treat ya right! Look forward to

There are LOTS of hotels in Guerrero Negro and only on Presidents Day Weekend may get pretty full but you can always get a room somewhere...the salt

Well, to answer your question, no we did not camp in that area, but there were lots of beautiful places one could camp. We drove straight to Camp
Rene--we did not have as much time as we wanted.

Also, in regards to hotels in Guerrero Negro, it is difficult for me to think of them as all full. When we were there on the 17th of this month there
were only three other rooms occupied at Posada de Don Vicente.
We had such a great trip---just not long enough.

Leave that 7 ml suit at home !!
But you will want a wetsuit.

The water temps have cooled considerably to around 68-70 and will drop more as spring advances, so even your spring suits might be a bit chilly, a 5
mil would do the trick. There has been a monster swell here for the last 4 days...starting to go down a bit now though. stop and and say hi and we'll
direct you to the best breaks and camp spots.

5mm for 68? That sounds like a sauna to me. I'm bringing a short john and boardshorts. Look for three guys in boardshorts. We'll be pasty white on day
one and langosta rojo from there on out.
