Ca. Car registration renewal in BCS

nobaddays - 2-24-2007 at 12:37 PM

I have seen posting on the internet that there is an exemption from smog certificates for cars in Baja California Sur. Has anyone used this or heard of it? ;)

For BCN they stopped doing that a long time ago. Don't know why the state of Cal would look upon other regions as different. For your sake, I hope they do.

The smog exemption form for California DMV registration states "not for Mexico or Nevada" but my local DMV knows that doesn't mean anywhere but border towns. They register me each year. Just state on the bottom of the form that you car is, i.e., 1000 miles from the border. They still, however, require liability insurance (go figure!). I get that from my insurance guy and then cancel it the next week.

so ALL you need to do is go to Redding or Chico CA DMV and you're in!!!

California has a new law which I believe require evidence of Insurance be maintained in thei data bank. If coverage is cancelled they will possibly revoke your registration. Arizona has been doing this for years. I believe the insurance companies are required to notify the State if your policy is cancelled.:?:

I just posted this on a different thread but here's my story and I'm sticking to it. I tried to get the exemption for my car.
I filled out the form told them the car was in San Quintin a 10 hr drive and mailed it in with insurance papers. They sent it back with the nev/mex section highlighted. Told me no deal. After talking to someone that does this all the time I rewrote a new form and sent it in again claiming extreme hardship which I did in the first one also.. They sent it back again and said I had to smog it and change the address to mex. . I'm taking it in Tues to get it smogged. . Seems for the dmv it is how the wind blows. It seems to be blowing up my skirt.k:tumble:

Is Tehama a nickname for this town? It's called A on the map.
