Farthest Gas Stops

kitjv - 2-25-2007 at 04:52 PM

My wife & I will be riding the length of the Baja peninsula by motorcycle next month. Generally, where is the longest stretch on Hwy. 1 with predictably no available gas? Thanks for your help!

Generally between El Rosario and Jesus Maria. But use the search function in the uper left hand corner and you will get a wealth of info on gas.

There are independent gas distributors selling from cans at Cataviņa and the L.A. Bay junction... Otherwise as noted above, El Rosario to Villa Jesus Maria is the longest section with no Pemex stations.

I always wonder why a PEMEX at the BOLA junction wouldn't be a good location.....if I was into starting a business that is where I would locate.....

If it takes Pemex years to give Antonio at El Rosario permission to update his bathrooms....the permission to open up a station at the BOLA junction is still decades away.

That's probably a BIG reason there is no station there, despite its prime location.

I thought there was one there years ago. I too couldn't understand why it closed.

Stations with few exceptions need local business to be profitable. At La Bay junction there would be very few local customers, especially now that La Bay has it own station/s.

Most travelers gas up southbound in San Quintin or El Rosario and don't need a fill up until Jesus Maria or GN. Northbound similar situation, no need to gas up at the LA Junction if you filled at GN or Jesus.

Lots of the smaller stations have closed in recent years. Not enough business to upgrade as required by Pemex is the reason much of the time.

This was looong before LA Bay even thought of having it's very own Pemex Station

Understand that it was closed long before there was gas in BOLA. Was offering an opinon as to why one hasn't been built there along with all the newly built stations in towns elsewhere, (brought up in prior post.)

Had a conversation with Ricardo of Rice and Beans in San Ignacio about the same topic. He said more attractive locations will sprout new stations before one is built at BOLA junction. Similar situation in Catavina for that matter.

NO BANK anywhere near! Gas stations deal in cash... a lot of cash. Punta Prieta Parador didn't have a population to draw employess from and Guerrero Negro was too far to haul a ton of money to, and no armor car service... Ejido issues too...
