OK, I’m a longtime Nomad lurker, but I finally registered – we need some help hauling donated school supplies to Mulege. See my post on that thread
for details: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=22369&pag...
This is a great board/community and I’m glad to (finally) be part of it. I’m a tent camper and a kayak fisherman and I hope I can pass on what Baja
knowledge I have. I’ve been coming to Baja for a half dozen years but have never been further south than BOLA – it’s hard for me to leave once we get
there.
My girlfriend and I are headed to Ojo de Liebre on Mar 16 to camp and see the whales.
Is that too late in the season? (shari?)
After the lagoon, we are headed to Bahia Concepcion to camp, kayak and fish. (not in that order, but don’t tell my girlfriend)
We’ll make a trip to Mulege to drop off supplies at the school and probably a trip to San Nicholas to kayak fish on the “big water”.
Questions:
Camping at Bahia Concepcion – which campgrounds are best for tent camping? If possible, I would like to avoid being shoehorned between RVs. Ideally, a
place that has palapas and showers.
I posted these fishing questions on the fishing board, but I thought it would be good to include them in this post, too:
Kayak fishing at Bahia Concepcion:
For bay fishing, I always do well with Krocs tipped with squid for bass and triggers. Any other advice on tackle/targeted fish or areas within the
bay? FYI, I have The Baja Catch – a great, if somewhat out dated reference guide.
Kayak fishing at Bahia San Nicolas:
Launch spots with easy access (1 mile or less) to prime fishing waters, combined with a nice area for my girl to hang out on the shore? My truck has
4WD.
Any other recommended launch spots in the area to kayakfish?
Thanks in advance.

march 16 will be perfect (i hope). my wife and i will be going out that morning to see the whales (depending on the surf, of course-i know, no surf in
the laguna!) depending on your arrival time we may run into you. what is your ETA? bajadanD will be arriving the same day as you so who knows!!!!
as for the rest of your post-i dunno....Yakfishing - 3-2-2007 at 05:33 PM
Woody,
The plan is to drive down on the 15th, pitch the tent before nightfall and catch a panga on the 16th – maybe the second trip of the day. I read in
another post here that the first boats in the morning locate the whales and pass on the info to the other pangueros. We are going to camp right at the
laguna. Look for the blue Dakota with red and blue kayaks on top – no kayaking in the laguna this time of year, so I’ll just leave them on the truck…

we will also be driving down the 15th (leave here by noon at the latest) but plan to stop in el rosario at the baja cactus to spend the night. figure
we'll be at the laguna around 10-11am. plan to camp for the night and head out on the water in the morning (depending on wind, rain, surf, and who
knows what. we're definately gonna have dinner at the "las cazuelas" in town and sample the "callos manos de lion".Diver - 3-2-2007 at 06:17 PM

DanD,
Nice halibuts!
I have a Prowler 15, too with FF and GPS, etc. I’ve fished the Pacific as far north as Big Sur – BIG lings - and as far south as Punta Banda and
Puerto San Tomas. Malibu is my local fishing ground.
If this was purely a fishing trip, I would be doing what you’re doing and stay on the Pacific side. But I’m camping with my girlfriend, so we are
headed to BC for a little RnR, mixed with a little yakfishing.
I’m always looking for the perfect spot with a nice beach/warm water for her and epic fishing for me…. The search continues.
CPG,
Whre are you headed?BajaDanD - 3-5-2007 at 06:48 PM
