Fishfinder help please

I need your thoughts on the Garmin 240Blue vs. the Furuno LS6100. The Garmin is a bit more powerful as my needs are both fresh and saltwater. I know both are fine for this. I can get the Garmin for about $75 less and wondering if the Furuno is that much better and I should spend the extra cash for it.
What are your experiences with either. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would think that if the Garmin is more powerful and is $75 less, the Garmin gets my vote. But, then again I've never purchased one of these and don't own a boat (yet).

On the subject of fishfinders, does anybody know the approx percentage of depth finding ability between fresh and saltwater??

I have been told there is a lose, just dont know how much.

Thx Dan/Oregon/Loreto

We have a fishfinder and it seems to scare the fish away....

We always catch fish when we play Beach Boy music on the boat.....

It might have something to do with those sonic pulses.....

We only use it now so we don't hit the bottom when near shore.:yes:

I just purchased the 240 blue with the 12deg/45deg transducer on sale at West Marine. The 240 blue is marked down $100. You cannot beat the price.
There is also a 250 garmin coming out that is also a good buy (go to garmin web site)
Hope this helps

The Furuno has better resolution and more features. Power looks like a push, either unit will serve you well.
I have had only Furuno and Sitex units on the boats I have owned as Garmin is new to the fish finder biz. Furuno is on my current boat. Obviously Garmin is a very reputable company with a solid reputation in GPS.
Fishfinders: Furuno is the "gold standard" with an unbeatable service department and very reliable products.
Check prices with a transducer included and consider ease of use. Good luck.
