A classical music concert at Mission San Bora!!!

Unbelievable, but true! Christel Veraart, Mezzo-Soprano, will be performing a concert at the Misión San Francisco de Borja Adac on Sunday March 18th, 2007, at 2 pm. Entitled, "A Program of Sacred Songs," this concert will consist of carefully selected repertory from the time the Baja Californian missions were founded and built.

Music that was composed in the Old as well as in the New World, such as an Ave
Maria by Charles Gounod and "Ya la naturaleza redimida" by Manuel de Sumaya, is
included in the program. Repertory will be sung in Latin, Spanish, German and
English.

This is a benefit concert, sponsored by Comanji A.C. and all donations will go towards the restoration of the beautiful mission of San Borja, so admission is free but donations will be greatly appreciated. The idea behind it all is to bring music to places of beauty and inspiration.

The website in BornFisher's posting gives directions to the Mission via the road to Bahia de los Angeles followed by this: "Last time we checked (November 2006) the road was in good condition and regular cars could make it." This is a questionable statement to me. I would say more like: regular cars MIGHT make it.

In any case, for those who DO make it, it looks to be quite an unusual event.

We just returned and with our Tundra 4WD, we had no problem, but still went very slowly in several spots. Glad we had higher clearance in some places---easier that way.

I agree with you, yes a regular car might make it, but there are some quite rocky points and some ruts----one would need to be VERY careful and take LOTS of time.

Sure wish we were going to be there.

Hope the concert goes off without problems and is a huge success. But with a procession of cars all trying to time their arrival @ 3, one can easily see el messo grande (that means big mess in spanglish)! Cars getting stuck, breaking down in places where others can`t pass, aye carumba!! Maybe the other route would be a better option, coming in from Rosarito.
BTW if you go the concert website, you can hear the lady sing. What an experience it would be to hear her in that beautiful stone church!!

Both the north road and the west road to San Borja are graded and mostly 2 lanes wide. 4WD is not needed.

The north road has a rocky section, but nothing that will stop most normal cars, if taken slow.

The west road (from Rosarito) is even better... and that is the one most of the locals will be using.

Unless they have graded within the last two weeks, they both could use grading. No, on the north road we didn't need 4WD, but it was slow going---quite a bit was very rocky, some good dips, and one place with some deep ruts--the ruts don't show in the picture well---shadow.

Not a road I would take something like a Taurus over and definitely not my Toyota Echo. JMHO

Sure wish we were going. If anyone is, just take is slow --- lots of surprises.

That is the way the road was last March also. Not one I would take in a passenger car. The road in from Rosarito however was pretty good.

Wish we were going to that concert, what a great venue. I hope the promoter's do well and have another in the future.

Yes, we went from Rosarito and out the other way. The road from Rosarito was in much better shape, but still rough in some areas----maybe they will grade for the concert.

We look forward to our next visit there

Here's the north road in 1983 or so...a bit rougher back then, but the 2-wheel Toyota made it.

Diane, good photos... the first is the rocky stretch, the second is the dips, but no problem... in December, '03 they were full of water... FUN! The third is the arroyo crossing near where the Montevideo road branches.

These are dirt road folks, and this is Baja... Leave your Porsche and Lincoln Town Car at home!
