Looking at the Almanac, we are looking at the possibility of heading for San Francisquito from Bahia de Los Angeles and then leaving via El Arco.

We have read that there is a campground with showers, etc. out there. Is they still there?

Also, how are the roads?

The road between Bahia de Los Angeles and San Francisquito is usually in pretty good condition and IMHO is one of the most beautiful drives on the peninsula. Figure about 3.5-4 hours. I haven't driven it in a few years but I haven't seen anything recently on the board that would suggest anything different. The facilities are still there but the man who has been running it, Genaro, recently died so things might be in some turmoil. Perhaps some others know what the current situation is and can give you an update. Since it has always been known as a fly-in resort, a good resource for San Francisquito is the Baja Bush Pilots website, you might check over there for more current information about what is going on. ++Ken++

San Francisquito is worth the trip. There are facilities there, both at the Caleta (minor) and at the main "resort", where there are cabins, etc. available.

I was down in November, prior to the 1000, and the road was, as Ken states, pretty good - degrees of good are all about the vehicle you're in. A regular vehicle can make it. The road from El Arco to the highway was full of washouts. Not difficult, but sudden.

I saw, your trip report, and have seen your pictures before on the rv.net forums, and appreciated them all. It would seem you are not taking your Caribou on these Baja trips - why is that (just curious)?

Bottom line - air down, take it easy, and the trip to San Francisquito will not be a problem. A beautiful drive, and lots of stuff to see on the way. Just watch where you park, the locals can come flying down that road in their "unfit" vehicles. :lol:

If you see an inviting abandoned beach on the way, check for mud by physical inspection - especially in the San Rafael area. Great stops on the way are Las Animas and San Rafael - both worth an overnighter at least. The caleta at San Francisquito (north of the resort) is especially beautiful.

I drove the road from Bahia de los Angeles toward San Francisquito part way---as far as the turn off for Las Animas in December. That is approx 34 miles. It is a gravel/dirt road and was in very good condition. I think any kind of vehicle would have no problem.

For a while, we have decided that we want to travel without the Caribou---just easier in many ways for us.

I suffered from Baja fever for many years...each year my baja trip would extend another few weeks until it was 6 months there and 6 in Canada thinking and planning my next baja adventure...the ONLY cure is to just stay in baja...no more dreading the trip back north...no more dreaming about going south...just enjoying the slow lane and cold tecates! Oh yeah, it's a challenge living here but definately cures the baja bug.

I have the fever I was born there so I must of gottten it from my mom?

All I think about 24-7 is Bahia De Los Angeles and how Im going to live there some day and how to get there as soon as possible.......................

Yes, there's a turnoff to that viewpoint just as the highway exits the canyon and begins the downgrade.

That is one of the coolest views in baja all of those Islands
