Playa Esmeralda

National Geographic Adventure Magazine mentioned a beach called Playa Esmeralda.

Does anyone know where that might be in Baja?

Can you give us a little more on the article?

It sure sounds familiar, but it's not listed in the Baja Almanac index, AAA map, Moon's Baja, Lonely Planet Baja, or Camping Mexico's Baja...

I do see a 'Campo Esmeralda' just south of El Vergel/ Ejido Delicias... About Km. 36 south of San Felipe...???

There is a playa esmerelda owned by an amigo named Samuel near El Tomatal...it is up at the north west point of the bay tucked in the corner...nice beach..awesome beachcombing, boogie boarding,, good fishing off the rocks too. Last time I was there he had 3 rustic camping palapas and a trailer he rents out too. He also has a fishing panga there and can take you out. It is a lovely spot and usually there is nobody there...sometimes folks from guerrero negro go there on sundays to picnic. That whole Tomatal beach is one of the best for finding bones, I found a whole baleen there once and is a mystic place indeed..windy so the palapas help for camping. If you go there tell him Shari sent you as I told him I would try to help him do some promotion for his nice little camp.

The article gave little info other than it is north of San Ignacio so I assume it is along the West Coast in Baja Sur.

Yes, that one is probably what I was thinking about Shari!

Why? Because there is a photo of it in my web site on this page: http://www.vivabaja.com/et/brindex.html :O:light:

If it is a Pacific coast camp, then the one Shari mentioned must be it... North of Villa Jesus Maria, off the El Tomatal road. Surprising that name isn't more popular!
