We are planning to visit Loretto area between mid-April and early May and were hoping to swim/snorkel as much as we could. From other websites, it
sounds like the water does not really become comfortable for swimming in this area (75 deg and above) until later on in the summer. I was hoping to
get other inputs on this and particularly ideas on specific beaches that might have warmer water and/or good snorkelling between Mulege and La Paz.

This past week in San Nicolas Bay my Garmin was reading between 62-63 degrees if it is reading correctly. Brrrrrrr!

We were in that area in Feb. and felt fine using 5mm wetsuits. By the time your there it should be a lot warmer.

I also got a report from a friend who got the info from a resort owner in Loreto. They claimed it is currently 73 and should be about 80 by the end
of April which is a lot warmer. I'm don't know where San Nicolas Bay is located. Perhaps it is further out from the town main shore and hence
cooler.

Take a look at this:
www.terrafin.com
water won't be in the 80's next month, no way

flyfishinPam,
Thanks for the pointer. The Terrafin current free picture for Loreto is blank (I assume cloud cover) but Bahia La Paz showed around 70. Their free
more detailed sample (April 2003) shows Loreto area in the higher 60s in mid-April. That seems to confirm your skepticism with the resort owner's
report.

San Nicholas is about 20-25 miles north of Loreto and just south of the bottom of the Bahia Conception. Very similar water temps to Loreto.
