For the past 3 days we have had a marine layer sitting off the coast. It ebbs and flows making for very strange temperature fluctuations. Yesterday
around 5pm it was so foggy that the street lights came on. I could not see across my lot. Today I had clothes on the line that were dry. I had to
stop bringing them in for about 45 minutes as the fog rolled in and when I got back to them they were wet again.
Anyone else seeing this?
Is this La Nina?
Fog

Fog along the coast at Loreto past 2 days. About the only thing rarer here is a camel stampede.
No, I think it's probably fog.

Ah Judy - You are former San Francisco Bay Area resident - ya really gonna call that stuff fog?!
Gene has been complaining about the fog for 3 days now. I say, this doesn't hold a candle to the homeland.... not until the water's dripping off you
can it be called fog.
Hopin' to see you during the hot months,
Nenabajatorres - 3-20-2007 at 09:04 PM
We saw it in San Jose on Sunday, and it was here on Monday and today (Tues). We had to go to CSL today, nothing there, but could see the marine layer
against the shore when arriving back in BuenaVista about 2:30 this afternoon. It rolled out a little about 4PM, but rolled back in about 5PM. It is
now 9Pm, and it is inland enough to know that people around here don't know how to drive with it. Can't see past 2 houses away. It is not cold, but
everything is wet.rob - 3-21-2007 at 07:56 AM
Had dense fog here on Pacific side (west of La Paz) for three days - yet not totally unusual. May is thick fog month.
There is a large water melon growing in the (totally unirrigated) eaves of the beach palapa. How it survives, let alone thrives, I don't know.

Egg on my face...again...when our guest Nomad with the fancy Land Cruiser asked about fog when he arrived..."Oh fog is EXTREMELY rare here..we see it
offshore and in the hills but not HERE!" So naturally there was a thick fog his first morning here and in fact for the 3 days he was here!! there was
a rare south west wind that blew in inshore. Weird indeed but a nice break from the sun every day. ONe word of caution about fog...drivers here don't
see it much and dont quite understand that you cant stop your vehicle with no visibility and there are LOTS of accidents as most drive way too
fast....aguas!David K - 3-21-2007 at 08:04 AM
Hey Rob, do you have a web site with photos of your part of Baja?
I camped at Punta Conejo back in 1985 and really liked the beach there. Local fishermen came to meet us one morning and later brought us a gift of
fish they just caught... amazing! Oh yah, the hermit crabs were great too...
Of course there were no 'homes' along that coast besides the fishermens huts at the point.
Thanks!Tomas Tierra - 3-21-2007 at 08:10 AM
Are there "Homes" at Conejo now???David K - 3-21-2007 at 08:19 AM
Rob lives south of Conejo...
On this satellite image, you can see the fishermen's homes on the north side of the point and a few 'houses' to the south of the point... Punta ConejoNatalie Ann - 3-21-2007 at 08:55 AM
Okey doke... I'll eat my words - payback time. The "fog" is dripping off my body after a morning walk in Ensenada... but I do think we're calling it
rain. keynesco - 3-21-2007 at 08:57 AM
Is the west coast of Baja Sur socked in right now?
I am thinking of flying into San Juanico today.

Nena
I wasnt going to call you on that but the FOG was dripping off my hair and my glasses were covered in some sort of moisture and it wasnt rain.
It rolled back in yesterday afternoon and the marine layer is sitting out there on the water(the la nina water, dave) so maybe more today.
I am with Shari. It is nice for a change. Wish it would come back in Aug and Sept. A 10 degree drop in temp would be welcomed then for sure.tuna stick - 3-21-2007 at 11:07 AM
Ah Yes,Camel Stampedes. Just one of the reasons we left Minneapolis! Fog has been so thick, couldn't see the islands from the malecon!vandenberg - 3-21-2007 at 11:18 AM
Ahhh Yeah, the Minneapolis malecon, and no view of the islands in the river. Never been there, but can picture it in my mind, bajajudy - 3-21-2007 at 12:23 PM
It's back. Not as thick as yesterday but back.bajamigo - 3-22-2007 at 09:34 AM
It's been in Punta Banda area, too. We're new to the area so don't know if it's usual or not. First day of spring brought us showers.rob - 3-22-2007 at 06:01 PM
Hi,
For Googlers - Rancho la Aguja is at 23.988347, -110.901114
We are about 14km south of Conejo, hour west of La Paz - and no, there are no homes at Punta Conejo, just a fish camp and a ranch house last time I
looked.
David K (and others) - I spent many years in the computer industry, play with Photoshop, Illustrator, Google etc but there is something about posting
photos to Baja Nomad that totally defeats me. Let me try and find the instructions (again) and will put up two or three of the best.
Robcabobaja - 3-22-2007 at 06:39 PM
Thanks Rob........looking forward to the photos. Can I come and camp at La Aguja for Semanta Santa?Paula - 3-22-2007 at 10:29 PM

Ed, there is no malecon in Minneapolis....
but those Minnesota camels-- there is no match for them!rob - 3-23-2007 at 12:06 PM
Thanks Sr Vandenberg - working on the photos!
Cabobaja - you (and any other Nomadder) would be most welcome to Rancho la Aguja. Km55 north of LA Paz (there is a bus station), take road to coast
(keep right at both ejido turnoffs). You will see the windmill.
Be aware Semana Santa here on the Pacific can be breezy and cool (and can also be downright hot!).

Here are a couple of ranch shots. We have 2.5km of beach (and its SAFE AND SWIMMABLE!) - although darn cold at this time of year.
PHOTOS AGAIN

I think the photo is below 50K this time . .
David K - 3-23-2007 at 04:13 PM
HOORAY for Rob!!! And lucky for us to see the rarely visited Pacific coast of Baja!bajalera - 3-23-2007 at 04:51 PM
You can expect fog any old time at the Pac Coast San Juanico, but we were at San Juanico on the Gulf last weekend and have never seen so much gray
stuff on that coast. It was dark there at 4 in the afternoon, and in the glow of a flashlight you could see little drippy things. Strange!
in ensenada
sylens - 3-23-2007 at 05:06 PM
we get june gloom with early morning fog that generally burns off in the afternoon. this year we are getting some march gloom. a bit strange. and,
as mentioned, the first day of spring brought some much needed rain. not nearly enough, but better than none.
Fog in Mulege, too...last day of yellowtail tournament.
Pompano - 3-25-2007 at 02:05 PM
The early dawn of the last day of the tournament saw dense fog for many miles..especially southwards. That prevented some fishermen from reaching a
yellowtail 'hotspot' near Pta. Terasa...
Here's what fogbank looked like from the road.
..ant then it rolled down into the Bay.
Pompano - 3-25-2007 at 02:07 PM
..always makes for an interesting day on the water.
And yet more FOG...and haze
Pompano - 3-28-2007 at 08:04 AM
This morning looking at Coyote Bay camping beach. The day is starting off foggy and windy with haze...could be the Oregon Coast?
