Bajafun777 - 3-22-2007 at 10:26 PM

I was told by a friend today that he traveled from Tecate to Puerto:o Nuevo on the new toll road and it goes into the Ensenada Toll road. Has anyone traveled on it yet?? I have taken the Tecate Toll Road to T.J. and then over to Rosarito but not this other route. :o

If you are travelling east from the Otay crossing, the "new" Boulevard veers off to the right just before you get to the Tecate/Mexicali toll road entrance. David K says look for the big sheep, but it was rather well hidden by plants and trees....I just followed the signs.

I took it for the first time on a Friday evening, and once you get past the industrial area of the Otay/TJ area headed east, there was very little traffic.

Passed and waived through one military checkpoint before the Boulevard 2000 turn off. Signs are marked Popotla/Rosarito/Ensenada" and are easy to follow.

Boulevard 2000 dumps you out at the free road in Popotla, make a right turn, follow the free road to Puerto Nuevo, and hop on the toll road. I found it to be, IMHO, a quicker route through/around TJ with less traffic, plus it saves you two tolls (now $2.65US at each booth) if you are headed south.

After you clear the urban area, you will be driving south through some rural areas, farms and ranches. One word of caution.....after you get on the Boulevard from the north travelling southbound, you will be decending a rather large hill/grade. At the bottom of this grade, there is Fracc San Francisco.....and a fairly well hidden stop sign (for southbound only).

PS:....there is no toll at this time.

Lot's of reports on the Blvd. 2000 (free) highway have been posted on Nomad over the past year...

Here's the route from space with a GPS track.

Cross at Otay, follow signs for Tecate/ Mexicali toll road (2-D),
Just before the first toll gate is a traffic circle with a bighorn sheep statue (or signs if the plants hide the giant sheep) where the new Blvd. 2000 road heads south to Rosarito/ Popotla (Fox Baja Studios).
