Road North of Insurgentes

gordfromborder - 3-23-2007 at 09:18 AM

We are going to visit Mag Bay on the way home in early May. Do any Nomads have a road report on conditions to La Poza Grande? The last time last time I drove it ( in '03) it was like a battle field after military exercises were completed.

Thanks in advance,

Gord

I was there in early March and I can say that there were more potholes than I had ever seen anywhere.. Drive slow or get eaten alive by lurking craters. It was a relief to turn off onto the dirt road to San Miquel.

Just did it Monday north and Tuesday coming back. DON'T GO!!

Just a joke, but it is in worse shape than it was earlier in the year. And getting worse. You absolutely cannot avoid the potholes and some of them are large enough for a good sized color TV to fit in.

We went north from Insurgentes last weekend, and that stretch of road remains pothole heaven. Not dangerous, just slow and annoying.

Did that road this past November - the only guy that had fun was the one whose truck was set up as a "pre-runner". The rest of us just tried to dodge the myriad of potholes all the other replies mention here.

Here's some of what to expect:

Like everyone has said, just be careful. These things have a way of coming up on you real fast...don't be in too much of a hurry.

Spent a few days at the mangroves near Poza Grande a few weeks ago, the road was as described, lots of huge potholes. Just take 'er easy and it is fine.

Reminds me of Mexico 1 circa 1979

Thanks to all Nomads.

We will save our rig and go to La Poza Grande next year when we have more time to spend there. Maybe the road will be repaired by then......LOL. Maybe it will be paved all the way through to Loreto! Really LOL!

Looks like a whole half inch of asphalt there! Just amazes me that it makes any sense to do a job that will fall apart instead of one that lasts beyond the term of the governor or president!

The locals have very receintly shown that they can do the job correctly. Look at the new drive into BoLA. The prospect of 250,000 yatchs a year being hauled down it is great motivation! :O
