Seems strange but we have heard that Metal Detectors are illegal in Mexico. Is that true?Bob and Susan - 3-23-2007 at 07:05 PM
one of our neighbors has one...

they ARE only toys...David K - 3-23-2007 at 07:14 PM
Since removing 'national treasures' is illegal for foreignors, perhaps treasure hunting devices are, too?
However, Bob & Susan are correct in that the are simply electronic toys... I doubt you will have a problem... How often are you searched going ito
Mexico, anyway?RockhouseTom - 3-28-2007 at 04:41 PM
Here's a picture of a detecor and my favorite operator at Camp Gecko BOLA. A few pesos and many lead weights were found on the beach along with alot
of metal junk. We have never had a problem.
Funny you mention them..

I brought an old Radio Shack version down and left it in the care of Luis, a worker I hired. He swears there is gold and coins and whatnot to be found
in Mulege. He hinted that a stash of coins was swept off into an area where he could locate them with a detector. He offered me media. I said, "If
they are gringo coins, sure!" Time will tell.
Oh, and btw, it was in plain view at the regular chkpoints.woody with a view - 3-28-2007 at 05:51 PM
