Is there any mail service in the Mulege area ? We pay our bills via the internet but what about receiving magagzines and documents, probably a problem but thought I would ask anyway

we got a po box in mulege...i think it was $12 a year
USA post office is about $48 a year for the cheapest

otherwise you get you mail "general delivery Mulege BCS" and they put it on the front counter for "everyone" to take a look at first before you get there

there is some delivery in town but very little

Probably about two-three weeks if anything like the service in Santa Rosalia.
It does get here tho.

I just got a letter from Montana, Air Mail. Postmarked in Montana Feb. 28, arrived and postmarked in Loreto March 27. The wonders of flight! It would have taken twice as long on horseback. :biggrin:

Don,

That's relatively fast. We routinely receive Christmas cards in February every year. We also have a box in Loreto and once in a while the postal service will outdo itself and mail from central California will get here in 3 weeks. But don't hold your breath. Wonderful people working at our post office though, and the sluggish mail definitely not their fault.

art if you are in town you dont need the box just tell them where you are and they will deliver it to you 5 days a week.

Vandenberg is right. We checked on the standard itinerary of a letter from the US to Punta Banda, and it was like reading "Around the World in Eighty Days." It seems about the only place the letter doesn't visit for processing is Chiapas.

EVERYTHING goes AIRMAIL!!! this is a NEW WORLD!!!
Remember FEDEX flys the postal service mail....and...
there are no regular flights on weekends
and...
if the FEDEX plane gets full of FEDEX the mail is pushed aside for later :lol:

it takes 28 days to get a regular letter from the states to Mulege...

If you want it FAST...
you NEED to use "Global Priorty" or "Express Mail"..
then...
it will depend on what you put on the customs declaration....

if it looks interesting or dangerous...customs get to examine it...
and....
if USA customs flags it then Mexico customs takes a look

each place can "hold" it as long as they like...
national security you know :saint:

Most of my mail going to a PO in Mulege has taken 3 weeks to forward from my post office in norte California

you're lucky to get any forwarded mail at all...it is going to another country!!!

remember the owner of the mail piece is NOT you...
it's ONLY yours when you open it!!!

it's the sender who put the postage on it ownes it and...
"they" have the "right" to get it back if it's not delivered to the address on the mail piece

that's why credit card companies get soooo rich :fire:

Anything over 16 ounces or any bulgy, bulky envelopes go to Mexico City to be scanned, opened, inspected, then rerouted. I personally don't think they sit around very long in any one place, just the air rerouting takes time. My longest wait, 14 months.

actually EVERYTHING from the states goes to Mexico City unless the city is REAL near...

also...

the post office DOES NOT open the mail :lol:

it's the customs service :lol:

and not all mail is opened...only interesting stuff :lol:

the 14 month wait was probably for a check :lol:

that's the ONLY thing that ALWAYS gets lost :lol:

never a bill :lol:

and...

i'd bet you 10 to 1 there was something wrong with the address on the piece...location placement...zipcode, city vs. common name, etc

my mail averages about 21 days from the US some times 14 and sometimes 28. but in 18 years they have never lost a thing. :lol:

Yesterday I received a christmas card from California...mail is unreliable and usually takes it a couple months but that's a first to receive a chrismas card at easter! Ha! Also if someone sends a package...it gets held in Sta.Rosalia until we call the post office and ask them to deliver it...so we need to know when someone sends a package so we can call there...hmmm

We are Rich and Linda. My birthday is Nov. 25th. We are leasing some land and going to put a double wide on it this fall in Punta Banda and will spend hopefully 6 months a year there. We spend several months a year in Oregon workamping at a resort called Howard Prairie outside of Asland where it's cool most of the summer. we live in A Rexhall Airbus 35 foot with 2 slides. We have solors and an inverter so we can boondock whenever we want.

One thing that used to slow down international mail (dont know if it is still an issue) is that if you put the 5 digit Mexican Codigo Postal on it once it hits the us system it is read by a machine and first routed to the US city with that zip code until a person actually looks at it to see it is foriegn then it goes on from there. My Cabo mail used to go to somewhere in Georga I think. I dont use the Postal system much for that reason but I still keep my PO Box in case. Electronic is much easier, faster and reliable.
