Baja Cactus/ Antonio

thebajarunner - 4-3-2007 at 08:25 AM

I had the opportunity to meet both Antonio and his gracious father last week when we stopped for gas at El Rosario.
Antonio and I only talked for a couple of minutes but it seemed like we were old friends, lots of things in common.

The gas station mens' bano now has a working urinal!!!!
Milagro!!! Thanks Antonio, we can check that off our list.
(But, the air hose was not working, so off to the llantera for that one)

On the way back 11 grubby guys captured 6 rooms at the motel and it was a great place to start re-entry into civilization after 8 days in the desert.

I was having breakfast along with my Dad at Mama's Espinoza, when suddenly this gentle nice face appeared, looking for us ... I felt so honored that TheBajaRunner took the time to stop just to say hello.

As he said, we just spoke for a few minutes, but in that brief time we realized we have several things in common... a very nice person indeed... and now I have a new Baja friend... THANK YOU Richard.

Regarding the restrooms, we are doing the best we can with those facilities, but the truth is that they are not adequate anymore... hopefully we will build some new nice ones in the near future.

About the air hose, that is a never ending story... Can you believe that some of the local fishermen are constantly cutting and stealing the piece of the air hose that you use to put the air to the tires?... We have to replace them 2-3 times a week... that is unbelievable. When this happens, we have to cut the power to the air compressor until we fix it again.

We have tried several options to have this permanently resolved, but so far nothing has worked. I plan to replace the air dispenser very soon and install two instead of one. When I do so, I will try to find some anti-vandalism or anti-theft ones.

In the meantime, I am sorry for the inconvenience guys.

Clean banos and honest pumps are a lot more important than working air hoses, my friend.

Amazing story about the missing hose links....
Only in Baja!!

...perhaps you could put a quick-disconnect fitting on the end of the hose - then have the 'air chuck' device with the matching disconnect on it available in the office, for use only when asked for. Maybe paint it a bright color so it won't walk away as easily.

I know a place that does it that way, and they ask for your driver's license in trade until the air chuck is returned.

Looking forward to another visit...all the best to you and the family!

Install a camera and sell hose too!

Last week going north I was really low on gas when I rolled
into the station. Filled up and took the credit card option-
+14% (He charges 5% and the exchange was 1.189)

CLEAN GAS
There were stickers on the pumps for an eco friendly blend.
So going north my check engine light was off well before the north military check point.

I had a lovely stay last summer, but when my brother in Law
checked out he didn't grab my license........I don't think I'm still checked in....but let me know if I have any outstanding
warrants in your country also:smug:

Peace and Continued Success

Good idea...

BajaCactus - 4-4-2007 at 06:19 PM

Thanks Mexray... I will give it some thought to see if that is practical for my customers... good idea.

Coconaco... I do not understand... Did you fill up at our Gas Station and paid with credit card?... The reason I am asking is because we only pass on the banking fee to our customers, which is only 2%, not 5%.

Antonio, you're a f******g Saint! Your singular honesty at your pumps is a legend among gringo travelers. An outstanding singularity in a sea of trancas. Have you considered politics? I have family in Mexico. I can tell them to vote for you.

Sorry- I must have misred the sign he showed to me from the cashiers cage. That is an even better deal as long as it gets paid promptly.

Just paid $3.35 a gal for regular gas here.

David K - 4-4-2007 at 07:27 PM

Antonio, please post the April Pemex prices... I paid $3.19/ gallon at Costco today (Vista, Ca).

i think i'll do this at our place later too...it's easier

lots of people going down and up
why are some leaving early?

Dollar rate.

BajaCactus - 4-4-2007 at 09:24 PM

Oso... my friend... you are making me blush...THANK YOU!!!.

Bob and Susan... thank you as well... however, today our dollar exchange rate was at 10.8 x 1 dollar, not 10 x 1... I do not like this kind of behavior from my staff, I hope it was a mistake on their part... Rest assure I will find out and take the appropriate actions with my cashier if it was on purpose. Thank you for letting me know about this.

DavidK, I will post the fuel prices later on... thank you for remembering me.

Have a calculator in hand, see the stations rate posted (MN10.70: dollar or whatever) and punch in the amount from the pump... pay that or get change to that... No questions about the change being short. Otherwise consider the tip included if they round down to 10:1...
