It seems to be a permanent fixture in Colonet, we even had them at the toll booths, southbound.
Sweet young ladies, with the Red X cans, and the stickers.
So, my question, is this really for the Cruz Roja? or for the collectors?? or for whatever??
Somehow, it just sometimes looks to be a bit much.

many, many years ago you could count on them stopping traffic in camalu. the rumor was if you were in an accident and they saw your window sticker
(old school postage stamp size, not the current baseball sized) they'd help you first! glad i never had to put that rumor to the test.

If you get into an accident thats who will be there to help you medically, They will give you Emergency Medical care and transport you to the nearest

Sorry but you are very mistaken, Cruz Roja is at every disaster scene, they were there for huricane john and they were there for Katrina, yes Cruz

As comitan sais they are the only ones that will come to you if God forbid you are ever in an accident. There is an anual collection that is going on
right now and will end on the 15th. You can donate year round but it is a nationwide collection right now and guess what, if they were to ever pick
you up you wont get a bill like in the US.
Now as for those people in white that you see at the border, I believe they are a scam, if you don't see a red cross it probably is a scam.

Well, like the rest of the Nomads that have traveled Baja over the years we have all seen wrecks. Now, the question is who do you see going to take
the victims of these wrecks to medical care??? The answer is Cruz Roja as we have all seen them do so, right??? I have and I know others have also.

No one (I would hope) is questioning the legitimacy, nor the importance of the Red Cross here or the Cruz Roja in Baja.

And, if so, then howcome every town does not put up the blockade and collect funds.?

What I am referring to is the donation itself. I have a hard time believing that the money they collect actually goes into the organization for legit
purposes. That would be a switch from the norm.
I've never seen them at a wreck. Perhaps they were on their way.
If they actually use the money to help those in need then I stand corrected .
Yes, I give to them regardless of what they do.

They are legit, and all are volunteers from either schols, clubs or organizations. Now, when they go to the bathroom and take theire collection can

All towns do it, now there are delegations for Cruz Roja and maybe that is why some are permanent.

They are very strict with the collection committee, very closely watched and audited, nationwide thing. Now as for every person delivering the full
ammount, don't know that, it's a lot of volunteers.

I have been working with Cruz Rojas since about 1970's in Rosarito and they are NO scam and I have knowledge that this is one thing that the
government would not allow scammers because they provide such an important service.
When I became involved it was because I found that their vehicles didn't even have any form of communications.....not their ambulances, lifeguard
vehicles, or even the rigs (mostly old bread trucks) that provided clinics in the back country.
I asked the Chief if I could take medical supplies and old CB radios that were destined for distruction and give them to Cruz Rojas. We equiped all
of their vehicles with communications and provided base stations. I took medical supply's to Rosarito for years..............Always made me very
angry when I found that several of the major schools and hospitals in the states donated obsolete equipment that required electricity to run to Baja
AND got tax credits when they knew that they could not be used...............
Okay! I am calm now..............anyone who does not have those 'stupid' stickers on their windshields is not...........to me..........a real

advise you.

My question is about the collectors, not about the agency.
It still looks sort of fishy to me, the way some of those towns (Colnet/Camalu) have permanent collectors, yet other towns never ever have them.
(and I do agree with Sharky- I have seen lots of wrecks in Baja, and never have seen the CR attending- saw a nasty one two weeks ago just a few miles
north of Colnet- an EcoBus and a steel hauling semi- very ugly, no Cruz Roja)
And yeah, I washed my truck last week and still have four stickers on the windshield... ask Baja Vida... he is a bigger sissy than I when it comes to

Here in San Felipe we have three different outfits that collect money at intersections. First are the CREAD guys, the ones in drug rehab. They don't
collect at intersections very often.
The second group is a religious organization. They wear white suits and have a logo that includes a red cross. However it is a Christian cross not the
red Plus sign the Red Cross uses. They are most often the ones out collecting at the intersections and I believe many of you confuse these people with
the Red Cross collectors. I know nothing about them or how they use the money they collect. They do try to make the uneducated Gringo think they are
Red Cross though.
Third there is the real Red Cross. They only collect one or two weekends a year. They are well organized and in much larger groups than the religious
red crossers. They also put a small sticker on your window when you donate and they stop asking for donations when they see you have already given.
Quite frankly the Red Cross is one of the best groups to donate to in Mexico. The money is well used. This organization is well trusted and highly
used here in San Felipe by the locals.

Locally there have been a few, one within the past year involving misappropriation of funds and a substitute ambulance scam.
The government should be ashamed that its citizens would have to depend on a charitable organization for one-on-one emergency care. And I
doubt that given the opportunity, government officials wouldn't scam from the CR... They do everything else.
I support the Cruz Roja, mainly cause it's better than nothing...Barely. [I could tell you stories]

In Guerrero Negro the Cruz roja is very active and legit...but sometimes those rascals in the nice white suits come...SCAM...but it's pretty obvious
when the real RC is soliciting funds as they are there with their ambulances and well organized...but I have heard nasty rumors of them stealing stuff
from accident sites so it's always good to leave someone if possible to guard your stuff...also the attending policia have been known to lift some
goodies as well...so even though tough...take your valuables with you or have someone guard the vehicle.
