We are staying the Hacienda del Mar in Cabo San Lucas for 2 weeks next January - can anyone tell us about this hotel? - location? - easy to get
around? - things to do? i Thanks.osoflojo - 4-9-2007 at 06:32 AM
I believe it is out at Cabo del Sol. I have never been in the place but the beach there used to be one of the best prior to all the building. I would
be a short cab ride to town, a bit to far to walk.bajajudy - 4-9-2007 at 09:53 AM
Is it a Sheraton resort? If so, it is very nice and huge. Several restaurants. You will probably want to rent a car if you plan on going to San
Lucas often.....it would be cheaper, I think.cabobaja - 4-9-2007 at 11:29 AM
Yes, it is a Sheridan Resort in Cabo Del Sol.
Sheraton Hacienda del Mar
Juan del Rio - 4-9-2007 at 02:38 PM
It is located almost halfway between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. On the pricey side, but not outrageous as the One and Only Palmilla. I
would rent a car for sure. You'll pay more at the hotel for the rent-a-car, but if you are only using it at various times during the two weeks, that
maybe the way to go. If you plan on driving around everyday, you may want to shop rental prices at the airport when you arrive.
Nice Beach location
Juan del Rio - 4-9-2007 at 02:41 PM
It is located on a great stretch of beach. The beautiful Santa Maria Bay is located about two mile away. Great restaurants, nice bars, good pool areas
and never appears to be crowded even when the hotel and time shares are full.
If you Golf, very nice course
Juan del Rio - 4-9-2007 at 02:48 PM
I don't play golf, but I'm told the course is a nice play. Overall, I think you'll enjoy this place. I have stayed here three times and have enjoyed
it each time. The style is a Mexican/ Spanish "Hacienda Blend" with the full ammeneties a first-class Sheraton Resort. I would suggest you make it to
the Cabo Surf Hotel one morning for breakfast...great spot for an early cup of coffee for sure!

For lots and lots of information on Cabo in general and the resort specifically, to to www.tripadvisor.com Click on Mexico, Mexican Forums, Baja. Almost every post there is on Cabo, and there are lots on the Sheraton.
For information on that resort specifically, go to www.tug2.net Click on BBS at the top of the page and then on Mexico. This site is for timeshare users, and those who use the site have been
to just about every timeshare there is and know specific room locations, info. on the restaurants, info. on the surrounding area, etc.
Both sites will give you a wealth of information.
Realize that it is NOT Baja
Baja Bernie - 4-9-2007 at 07:45 PM
David K - 4-9-2007 at 07:51 PM
It's not? Then what is it??
Unless you mean it isn't the Baja we know and love that doesn't involve pavement, hotels, and golf courses!osoflojo - 4-10-2007 at 05:43 AM
Lighten up on Cabo not being Baja........ Barco Parado Beach (where the hotel in question is located) used to be one of the best beaches on that part
of the Baja. No doubt that is why so many people spent so much money to build all that stuff there. Stand by, it is comming to the rest of Baja
soon...............bajajudy - 4-10-2007 at 06:58 AM
Yes really
You guys dont have a clue what is here. There is plenty of BAJA left here
I live here and love it....where do you live?osoflojo - 4-10-2007 at 08:13 AM
You tell 'em Judy...............rocketman1 - 4-10-2007 at 07:42 PM
Thanks for the answers, its not the Sheraton, but we have been told it is a sister resort...I think it is right next door to it. But I am not sure.
Does that make a difference in any of your replies?
We also will be staying at the Grand Mayan. Is it close to this resort? Or to the airport?
Thanksbajajudy - 4-10-2007 at 09:50 PM
I don't understand the sister resort thing but it is a huge hotel, time share, condo....I really dont know what different configurations they may
have.
However the Mayan resort is not finished yet. Remind me and I will let you know closer to your arrival if it is finished...
I would still get a car....probably $150 in cab rides just among the airport, the two hotels and back to the airport fares. Cabs are very expensive
here. Everytime you want to leave Hacienda to go to San Lucas or San Jose it will probably be 25-30 dolares each way. That is an estimate and
probably high...but close.
Cabo San Lucas trip in May
bajabob - 4-15-2007 at 10:00 PM
I'm going to be in Los Cabos next May 12-19th flying in on a commercial flight and staying at a timeshare there. No dirtbikes or buggies this
time, and no wife and no kids either, just some quality time with my younger brother who will be meeting me there for a weekend of R&R :barfpoor guy has to go back to work on Monday). After he takes off I was planning to rent a
car at the airport and use it to drive to La Paz and maybe even Loreto before I head back down to Los Cabos. I was wondering if I could get advice
regarding a day trip of fishing, whether Cabo or La Paz would be better that time of year or if there is no difference. I will be renting fishing
gear and will have a cooler with me in case I get lucky. Any other tips or suggestions would be welcomed.
I'm hoping to come back down in October for a ride and I'll definitely have to stop by Bajalou's place for some conversation and motivation!Diver - 4-15-2007 at 10:26 PM
Actually next month. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.Diver - 4-16-2007 at 07:40 AM
If you're looking for La Paz area panga fishing, try staying at Casa Verde in La Ventana and David will set you up with a panga - maybe from Los
Muertos.

Hacienda del Mar is a beautiful resort! I will be staying there again the last two weeks in May. The hotel portion is managed by Sheraton Resorts.
The time share portion is owned by those who purchase timeshares. The two operations are side by side making a seamless resort. You really don't
realize when you pass from one to the other. The last time I counted there were 6 restaurants on site. However, do not miss the opportunity to eat
Sunday morning buffet at the Cabo del Sol golf clubhouse, an easy, 1/2 mile walk from Hacienda del Mar. All you can eat lobster, Haagen Daz ice cream
sundaes, among other things in a "knock your socks off" setting. Also the Smooth Brothers, Jose and Felix, play soft jazz in the background.
Hacienda del Mar is 6 miles from San Lucas and 14 miles from San Jose. The Mayan is in San Jose. The airport is another 10 miles north of San Jose.
In my opinion Hacienda del Mar is much nicer resort than the soon to be completed Mayan.
Rent a car at the airport. Taxis will quickly deplete your vacation budget. Elect to take full insurance which will cost more per day than the car
rental, but it is worth it. Make a reservation in advance on the Internet for the best deal. I always use Dollar and have never been disappointed.
Drive 30 miles one way or the other and you will be in the wilderness, what some people call the real Baja.
Enjoy!Diver - 4-16-2007 at 08:24 AM

The Felix you spoke of playing Jazz, is he a great big guy, cant remember his last name, about 60 years old? Used to play back-up for Carlos Santana?
If so I lost track of him some yours ago and am glad he may still be around. He is world class and definatly worth a listen.tunaeater - 4-16-2007 at 12:23 PM
Don't forget about the collectiva buses that run very frequently North and South. We saved big money taking the bus from San Jose to Cabo and back. It
was only $1.25 each way. The only bummer was the bus would only run until 10:00pm. So we were stuck getting a cab back to San Jose after a night in

I would say Felix is in his late 40's and about 5'-8" tall medium build. He speaks almost no English. So I doubt it is the same guy, but I will ask.
Jose is bald and sports a goatee. Very bohemian looking.
These guys - Los Hermanos Suaves- are very good. They are brothers and both are soft spoken Mexicanos. "Cool" is the best word to describe them.
Jose plays base and Felix plays guitar. They play Bossa Nova, '60's stuff like Pipeline, Apache, DreamWalk, Walk Don't Run and all the old Jazz
standards. They play at Cabo del Sol clubhouse for Sunday buffet and they play at the Hilton lounge Tuesday through Sunday evenings. They have cut a
CD and we play it in the car.
I highly recommend them for a fun evening. All it will cost you is the price of a cerveza....or two or three.
One of my daughter's employees plays in a band with Carlos Santanas brother in the LA area. Carlos will often come by and jam with them. I am
begging her to be a fly on the wall at one of those practice sessions.
Panga fishing

This is probably more in my price range than the other sportfishing link in Cabo Last time I was in Cabo (12 yrs. ago) the had a pretty good sized
panga fleet there also and the prices weren't bad at all.
