I just got back from the Consulado De Mexico Santa Ana Ca.
It was just like being in Mexico! It even smelled like Mexico.
It was a faily pleasent experience and they gave me a list of requirements.

1. Letter of application.(They gave me 1 page to fill out)
2. Proof of permanent income.(Apparenly it only costs $1000/month to live in Mx)
3. Proof of moral solvency.(From local police)
4. Valid passport.(At least one year)
5. 2 passport size photos front view.
6. $134.00 US cash.(No bills larger than $20)

The lady said it would take 3-4 days to process.
I stopped at the police station and got the application for the letter. 3-4 days to process and $20.
I'm going with an agent in Ensenada and it costs between $50-90 US and takes 1 1/2 months.
Hope this helps.

But remember, you have to register it in Ensenada when you get there (or wherever you are living). Tell us the rest of the story after you do that.

Don't forget to have it stamped at the border or the guy in Ensenada will slap your hand!

Only in Mexico would an official form take longer in the country of origin than the foreign country you apply in.

So, how much does it cost to complete the process in Mexico, say, in Ensenada?

I finally got a new fishing license for my fishing kayak. I couldn't get one in Loreto, I didn't have enough paperwork. I had to go to San Diego to get it.

Ensenada: My guess is that when you check in with the Ensenada immigration office, everything will have to be done over. I would take extra copies of everything there.

not sure what original application costs right now, but second renewal was $1172.00mn @ 10.90 p/d that's about 108 dollars.

A new application in Loreto last month cost 1,565 pesos.
