Conception Bay and Mulege photos

Baja Bernie - 4-21-2007 at 11:32 AM

But it is sooooo inviting.

Bajalero - 4-21-2007 at 12:15 PM

Stopped by there a couple of weeks before Easter to have a look see and let the dogs pee . It was wall to wall canadians. Well except for one gringo couple who came out to greet us and gripe about their neighbors unfriendliness. The guy at the east end had put up a fence across the road so no one would park further past him. Some of the rest had their little yards all cordoned off to discourage the potential passerby/ visitor. And it was reported that one gentleman who was camping there was raking his "yard" no less than 3 times a day. I'd watch out for that boy.

Glad to see it more or less bare . Now if they would just get rid of all the shacks it would be a pretty beach again.

Packoderm - 4-21-2007 at 12:28 PM

It's funny, but my positive experience with the other campers and the camp atmosphere is why I intend to return to Playa Escondida this winter. For my son, it was like a paradise with all those other children running about.

Oh yeah; I almost forgot, there's a bit of a rough road to get to Escondida. That explains that.

Packoderm - 4-21-2007 at 12:37 PM

"Now if they would just get rid of all the shacks it would be a pretty beach again."

I like those palapa shacks. I think it would look better to have people camping in the shacks than having all those huge RVs up front. At least the shacks hide the RVs a bit from the view from the water's edge. The shacks have soul.

DonBaja - 4-21-2007 at 02:52 PM

I'll be there in a week and a half  Leaving San Felipe next Sunday for a two week adventure down the sea side and then back up the pacific side

Packoderm - 4-21-2007 at 02:58 PM

Thanks for the photos Pompano. They're great. I wish I was there right now.

turtleandtoad - 4-21-2007 at 03:11 PM

What?
No pictures of Requeson?

Requeson

turtleandtoad - 4-21-2007 at 05:45 PM

Memorial Day Weekend is about the biggest holiday weekend San Felipe gets... Lot's of people, noise, etc. Over-The-Line games were the big draw in the past.

So, yes it very well might be hard to find an RV spot in town.

Options would be to head south to Percebu or Nuevo Mazatlan to camp.

Did you want hook ups? Are you in a 4WD camper? Did you want to be near restaurants and shopping? With more details, the people here on Nomad can help!

samsam - 4-24-2007 at 11:36 AM

I have a 35' Class A -Gas I would like hook ups but can do with out or have a palce near by to get water and dump.

I don't mind even driving to further south to Mulege leave on thrusday before mem day. I have kids would like be near shops but the pictures

David K - 4-24-2007 at 06:02 PM

Well, this is a thread about photos of Bahia Concepcion... Which is lot farther away than San Felipe!

There would be the place to go if you don't mind two day's drive from the border...

Repost this in the Q & A forum for more people to help you...

DesertBull,

Silver Strand has no hook-ups. And I think he may have just gone to the California Parks site and not a Baja site if he wanted to stay north.

Could you take some pictures from the old landing strip towards the mouth of the river etc? :yes:Thanks.:tumble:

Diver - 5-28-2007 at 09:00 AM

I LOVE your pictures.
I'm really glad you get to spend so much time in heaven !

I was thinking if there was a photo op in answer to your question and the only thing that came to mind is a curiousity about the area near the lighthouse, access, etc.

What I really felt was a conglomeration of images from so many places on my little shopping tours in Mulege. This past January, my wife and kids refused to leave the beach at El Requeson for our traditional day in Mulege. I ended up going into town twice by myself. What sticks in my mind is the people;

the senor and senora at the lavamatica,
Bruce Leech live and in person,
the young lady and skinny helper at the Aqua station in the middle of town,
the old senora was "in charge !" at the ferreteria above the lavamatica;
Saul himself was at his mercado; and the little boy who got my ice for a tip,
the petite lady in the corner shop who remembered me by reminder of my red-headed son, she was very happy as I went wild on gifts after the slower than normal season,
the sharp young man in the internet cafe across from Equipales,
tacos at Danny's....

Show us YOUR day in town with your wonderful narration ! Please !!

.

capt. mike - 5-28-2007 at 09:24 AM

man, those beaches are empty!
where are all the memorial weeeknd revelers?

pomp, shoot a pic of my patio please, i missed it this weekend.....now looking like wed as the travel date. my tech just keeps wrenching along.

Q - what are the sundown temps now, and pre sunrise?

You live in a beautiful province, BajaGypsy, and I think your coming summer will be filled with many a great lake and forest scene. I spend as much time as possible at scenic places like Reindeer Lake, Lac La Ronge, and that great adventure, the Churchill River.

I will trade you some palms and beaches for some pines and rock islands.

It is very beautiful, but I enjoy the ocean so much more. We actually camp up by Wollaston Lake, on a fairly big lack, and it is very beuatiful, just not quite as warm;D

Cypress - 5-28-2007 at 03:40 PM

All your pictures are great Pompano! Your humor is an extra plus.:bounce:Thanks.

capt. mike - 5-28-2007 at 05:39 PM

pomp - i think maybe Cypress wanted a pic of the old strip north side, baja aero club?
anyway, nice to see who's parked there, i see Marlin's twin is opposite where he usually parks. that's odd.

ok - i'll be parked there by wed i hope. i am ready to take on the 90 degrees at 11:00!!

Cypress - 5-28-2007 at 06:56 PM

capt. mike. You're right, the old strip on the north side. Thanks. :)

Cypress - 5-29-2007 at 06:53 AM

Pompano. Appreciate the background info. regarding the old strip, there's also an unfinished structure a little southeast of it.:D Know the story regarding the unfinished building?:?:

Bajagypsy - 5-29-2007 at 07:07 AM

Pompano, you know alot about Saskatchewan :D My families favorite place to camp up by Wollaston takes 2 1/2 hours to get down about a mile and a half of road, it is so peaceful and beautiful, it almost takes your breath away. Now you have made me want to go camping instead of working!!!;):D;)

Cypress - 5-29-2007 at 07:16 AM

Could be Pompano, it's located maybe 1/2 to 1 a mile south-southeast. Didn't actually walk onto the site, arches, no roof, looked like an unfinished house.

Cypress - 5-31-2007 at 01:50 PM

Pompano.:):) Thanks for the pictures.:)

Cypress - 5-31-2007 at 06:11 PM

Pompano. That picture isn't the place. It's behind the Brisa Del Mar Hotel. There's an old stone "jail?" beside the strip.:tumble::biggrin:

Pompano

DianaT - 5-31-2007 at 06:36 PM

Diver had a great idea, and you really captured life in town. I just love the pictures of people living everyday life.

Thanks----really enjoyed this.

Cypress - 5-31-2007 at 06:46 PM

Pompano. The road to it goes right up alongside and behind the Brisa.:D Every day is an adventure for me down that way.:D Went kayaking at night out of Posada, the water was flashing and glittering with phosphorus. :D Real neat country.:bounce:

Bob H - 6-2-2007 at 03:17 PM

Pompano... great pics! Next time you roadtrip there - get a shot of Jungle Jims, inside and out. Also, if you happen to be there on the Thursday night... a photo of their chili relleno plate would be mouthwatering!

kodiak - 6-2-2007 at 09:43 PM

How is Ray coming along on his new place?? I am scheduled to be there in late November for about 2 months. Going to bring a 5th wheel camper...maybe leave it there for an extended period of time. Maybe a permanant location in Mulege.....any suggestions??

kodiak - 6-3-2007 at 07:09 AM

Kodiak is the truck I pull the 5er with. 8' tall and looks like a Peterbuilt...only its 4 wheel drive. Its just a C-4500...one size bigger than a 1 ton....but costs less.

So does Ray have purified water on his site? And what are the chances of finding an 'open' site at Jorge Yee's place in early January? And last but not least....what kind of monthly rates for a full hookup site? I believe that Ray's is now $400 a month if I am not mistaken.

kodiak - 6-3-2007 at 08:11 AM

Thanks for the information Pompano. Seeing all the beautiful pictures of Mulege makes us want to leave tomorrow. I actually went and bought another 5th wheel camper just for the trip. And with the intention of finding a permanant place to just leave it. Maybe, I need to find some yearly rates?!?! :?:

Having never been to Mulege, its extremely hard to decide where to go. Your photos sure do paint a wonderful picture of the area tho! Keep them coming!!

turtleandtoad - 6-3-2007 at 10:28 AM

Kodiak,
Since you've never been there, just a word of warning. Don't take the 5er into town! The roads were designed for horse and carts, not vehicles. And even though they've made most of them one-way to allow room for cars, it's no place for large RV's. Obviously the river roads are better since they cater to RVers, but even those can have a few tight spots.

Best bet; park the 5er and just use the Kodiak for exploring the town. Even then, that Kodiak may cause a mini-traffic jam in some spots. But the locals are friendly and will help you when they can.

capt. mike - 6-3-2007 at 01:46 PM

"The Serinadad has spaces, also..(crowd right in next to capt. mike and Janine.).."

Size of the rig

kodiak - 6-3-2007 at 05:01 PM

Sounds like Capt. Mike and myself, would get along just fine. What kind of hook ups do you have there? Seeing how this camper is 35' long...I really just want to set it and forget it for about 2 months. Just someplace to hang my hat during Jan-Feb. Should I book a spot now or can I do it when I get down there??

Thanks Pompano!! Man that is above and beyond the call of duty. I fulltime in a 40' Carriage, and knew it would be a behemoth down Baja.

So...I found one heck of a deal on this 35' and will just make it my 'Baja home away from home' rig. This picture was taken 2 days ago in Missouri after I dragged it all the way back from New Jersey. It cleaned up pretty nice though....the inside is perfect with the tags still on the sofa and chairs.

capt. mike - 6-4-2007 at 06:49 AM

kodiak - come on down, love to have you over.

kodiak - 6-4-2007 at 02:55 PM

Hey Capt. Mike......DO I need to make reservations now??? Or can I wait until I get there?? What is the monthly rate for a place in your park??

I am looking forward to placing some names with faces. Been a 'lurker' here for a while....decided to just jump in:lol:

a nite at the roxy?!

capt. mike - 6-5-2007 at 04:37 AM

no Kodiak, Don J. does not sell out in summer. you will pay about $15 a nite for a hook em up.
you can long term for about $180-$200 a month, negotiable.
there may be one or two pulled in, maybe 4 or 5 if a caravan.
there are 10 spaces, and the pool and bar atmosphere are the best of all the parks. plus you get to watch the planes come and go.
i am the last palapa west side before you get to the temp spaces.
solos seem to want to take the spot next to me when the place is empty - which is why we make the jokes about running people off after one night next to us.

one time we put on a blue record that i have, its nothing but crude love making sounds that get way out of hand for 10 minutes i put on an endless loop.
we were laughing so hard you couldn't tell what was real.
next morning they relocated several spaces east.

Pompano, thanks a million for the new shots of Jungla Jim's. My wife and I had so much fun hanging out there a couple of years ago and met so many nice folks from 4pm on..... lol
It's nice to see that Mulege seems to be recovering from the flood.

Keep them pictures coming Pompano. Always a pleasure reading the forum...but even more so when there are pictures involved!

BajaBruno - 6-6-2007 at 11:03 AM

Pompano, I passed by your Bay two days ago and the water was alive with bait boils! I couldnīt count them all. I almost launched the boat right there, but La Paz was calling. What got the bait scared right now? Roosters?

Bob and Susan - 6-6-2007 at 11:34 AM

roosters is correct

my neghbors are catching many...releasing

i guess they aren't too good to eat but fight like hell;D
