Español for "USB hub"

BajaBruno - 4-22-2007 at 12:37 PM

I would try..."Replicador de Puertos USB"...which would be like USB Port Replicator...

[This from my dearly beloved, a native Spanish speaker.]

Please take a look at www.wordreference.com where one can look up definitions in spanish-english, english-spanish and RAE. There are also forums. The "specialized use" forum search also concurs with concentrador USB.

Try "USB Hub." They understand that at the Office Depot in Ensanada.

Pardon my ignorance... what is that?

Thanks-- Larry

Lencho, greetings
The word reference dot com has online language dictionaries including RAE. It also hosts language forums where people can ask for help in translating if they can not find a word in any of the published sources offered by WR such as slang uses or regional expressions. One of the forums offered is specialized language, whether for engineering, construction, medical terminology or computer terms. I did a search of the specialized language forum and, inputting USB in the search box, got the same translation as the one you offered.
Word reference forum is at http://forum.wordreference.com/index.php

Interesting. Sounds plausable, but has she ever actually heard that term used? All I've encountered in La Paz is "concentrador".

Larry, she and her colleagues use “USB hub,” but all of them went to bilingual schools and universities, so they speak English; but she feels that for a non-English speaking Mexican bureaucrat to have an idea what it is, "Replicador de Puertos USB" would work. In most cases, it is such a low value part that I can’t imagine anyone getting excited about what you call it.

Hahahaha! OK Larry, I'll give you this one, but I don't have a prize!!!!
