Pricing & Reservations at Daggetts in BOLA?

SoCalAl - 4-23-2007 at 12:35 PM

:?: Lik eI said a few weeks ago, every time I try to communicate with Daggetts, I never have success doing that. I sent the guy email and I even made a phone call, each time I have not heard from him. I just want to know how it works. Do you just show up and hope the place is vacant which means the hell with one's plans. Take some freaken tents in case the place is booked.:fire:
What is it with these folks at Daggetts, are they running a business or are they just living life hoping for straglers to show up??
I don't know about any of you but it seems that the only guy who ever replied to my email(s) was Doc but he has no more Camp Gecko. I am getting to the point that I may just go buy a piece of land just to make sure I have a spot when ever it itches me to come down there. Now that I vented :tumble:
Does anyone know how it really works at Daggett and don't tell me to email or even call the guy for I have done that for two years without success....

Thanks for any info you can offer...;D

for a few years we were hitting the pacific coast in july for a week then jumping over to bola.we always stayed at daggets, as it was right on the water, nice set-up(with palapas-we slept on cots )bbq, and just a handful of people there.(july is rather hot, so....)this time of year could have a fuller, if not full camp, but i'd just go and see what happens. a lot of folks pull in for a night or two and head out either towards the tip or back to the states.was always treated good by the folks there...

Al, if you are using the contact info on Daggett's web site, then that is about all you can do. IF Daggett's is full, there are many other campos nearby, however... not sure how many have 'cabins'. The least expensive motel is probably Casa Diaz, the original place in Bahia de los Angeles.

I have stayed at Daggetts three times, but always in December. It was never a problem to get a palapa.

But it sounds like you are looking for a cabin, of which there are not too many at Daggetts. However, like David says, there are other places to stay, like Larry and Raquels next door to Daggetts. I've got to believe that you can always find a room in the Bahia de los Angeles area.

If you are camping, there should be no problem going to Daggetts without a reservation. I would put aside your frustration with their lack of response and just go there. Things will work out and you will enjoy that beautiful spot or one of the others in the area.

That's a great idea Judy! Debra and Mary Ann Humfreville are both there and have Internet.

We all met SoCalAl about 4 years ago at Gecko... a really great guy!

I sent Daggett's an e-mail asking the monthly rate and he fired back an answer within 48 hours.

David K - 4-23-2007 at 03:20 PM

Was that with the same email that is on Daggett's web site?

Fred - 4-23-2007 at 03:29 PM

Actually I sent an e-mail to two different address's. So yes to your questions. One of them took took 72 hours. In fact, I think you gave me one of the address's.

SoCalAl - 4-23-2007 at 03:34 PM

Wow, thanks guys and gals I know I can always count on the Nomads.
Fred: I can't believe you got a response with an answer with-in 48 hrs. What were the tarriffs??
If I was planing on going for myself, I would not even worry about reservations as I can sleep in my truck or the beach with the scorpions if worse comes to worse but I was planning on coming in there with as many as 8 to 12 more people from my church. You never know how first timers react to the no bathroom, no shower, no light, no shade conditions. I don't mind roughing it once in a while but I am not sure about my church friends...
If I do not secure a cabin at least I can plan for a camp in the tents or palapas...
I just wish I knew in advance that's all. I mean why have a web-site with an email and phone for contact if you are not going to return email or phone calls. I must be going crazy or something??
Thank Everyone,
SoCalAl

I just have a 79 VW camper, so I need no hook-ups.............one e-mail was $190/month and the other was $200/month. So I would say that it would be whatever the going rate is when you arrive. Also another person told me to just say so and so sent me and the price may change. So, just go with your gift of ????????????.

Debra - 4-23-2007 at 08:06 PM

Al, just saw your message.......when are you coming down, I can go out and talk to them for you. Let me know.

SoCalAl - 4-24-2007 at 06:57 AM

Hoping for early July if not then I will wait until September.. Either way I like to know a few months in advance where I will be staying. Thanks Debra for your help. Maybe we can suggest to them to post the pricing on the web-site and they can add a not that pricing may vary or something. It sure would make it so much easier...

Thank You

It's Baja, and the mail doesn't always go out on time and it doesn't always arrive, and it's a beautiful thing. It's going to be a lot worse when the coast is lined with Hiltons and Ritz's and every demand is met right on schedule.
I've stayed at Dagget's a bunch, and have only found crowds during Mexican holidays or perhaps a major sports event like the Baja 1000.

pappy - 4-24-2007 at 09:06 AM

hey Al, daggets has restrooms and hot showers, so it shouldn,t be too bad for the first timers.probably the hardest thing for them might be the heat....

Hook - 4-24-2007 at 09:19 AM

A fan running on an inverter at night will be a godsend in either of those months, Al. Bring cots and flannel sheets.
