NEW PEMEX Santa Rosalia

The NEW QUALLI Pemex station near the foundry in Santa Rosalia opened on Monday.. Note station number 8956 The picture is from the south. This owner has an excellent reputation and it shows.

There are two other PEMEX stations serving Santa Rosalia, one about 5 KM north of town (also brand new) and the other on the south edge of town. Both these other stations are owned by the same person.

The station on the south edge of town is the one that has generated so much negative stuff, and it is almost deserted!

Just goes to show that what goes around comes around. The local people also probably got tired of getting about 90% of a full measure.

now there is three gas stations in santa rosalia to choose from:rolleyes:

Has any of this made fueling boats within the SR harbor any easier for the visiting yachtista or even the overnighting trailerboater?

Lencho, you should be careful with the expletives against Mexican businessmen here. They can come back on you.

You can check with Juan y Juan on the possible actions they can take if you so desire.

Its just better to share you feelings in a way not quite so descriptive.

And who knows how it will play out.

On my last trip to Baja (3/07) I fueled up at the Pemex on the north end of town.
The attendant (woman) tried to short change me 100 pesos. I pointed out the error before she walked away and she gave me the missing 100 peso note. No effort to apologize (she spoke good english) and no obvious embarrasment (sp).
It seems that window washing is also a thing of the past.
This is the only station I have had a problem with.

No, actually the owner of the old station which is on the South side of Santa Rosalia, built a new station on the North end of town and it opened first. The new station is right next to the sailboat anchorage on the east side of the street and about mid town. He had a Qualli designation already established while he was building. We residents of that area are really excited that we may finally get a fair shake on getting the amount of gas we pay for. While they did not run a hose to the waterside, it is certainly much more convenient for boaters to go up there with a can and fill up compared to how far away the old station was.
Hurray, now we have three stations in Santa Rosalia or as some of my souther friends used to say, "We are in High Cotton Now."

Juan y Juan is a different topic, however similar the potential problem. Has to do with San Juanico. Not of concern here really. Just a point to remember.

The citizens of Mexico have similar feelings as we from up north (or whereever) and it pays to remember that they take their name seriously. They do not like to be spoken of badly. Nor would you. Good for editing that post!

Another thing! This thread was started just to let people know that there is a better gas station open in Santa Rosalia now. Not a thread to encourage rants about the problem with PEMEX in Santa Rosalia.

Enjoy the fact that there is an alternative here now that you can use!

I, for one, am a little concerned that no matter what kind of thread is started on this site, that someone has to come in with some kind of negative comments regarding the subject.

I would think there was more to life than to trash whatever comes out here???

If your read this and it fits your shoe, wear it!

If you are referring to short volume, the local people have also been aware of the problem, hence the lower volume of business at that station currently.

As far as natives passing thru, who can tell.

They stopped the pump four times while fueling my truck. It all added up to another rip off!.

I stopped there to fuel cuz there was no diesel in Gerrero Negro, Vizcilleno, or San Ignacio. I could have made Mulege with a little less than a gallon left.

The new station is not worth stopping.

It's not just a Gringo complaint--Santa Rosalia is notorious among Mexicans who live in La Paz for its gas station rip-offs.

Current rumor is that the new place is owned by the same people as the others. Is this true?

I thought I answered that question. The New station on the North end of Santa Rosalia is owned by the same person who has always owned the station on the south end of town. The new qualli station that Los Frailes posted a picture of is in the middle of town and has a new owner.
The old station(South) and the newer station (North) are owned by the same guy who owns San Ignacio, Vizcaino ( I think), and both stations at Guerro Negro. So this is a really interesting development to have a Qualli Station plopped right in the middle of his stronghold.

We have a new station in Loreto too, a Cualli station, that reportedly gives full liters. The other two stations were rumored to give short liters.:biggrin:

At least one of the older stations, near our place, has very little business. Almost deserted. The new one is busy busy busy.

But now, they ALL are Cualli stations.:biggrin:

Will Santa Rosalia's older stations get the Cualli designation too? I bet they do.:lol:

I like the town but I will do everything in my power not to buy fuel in that town! No mater how many new stations they build.

Pemex is independent from the government...
60% of what Pemex earns goes to the government (IRS)...
40% pays for production and distribution

The rest…(a very small amount) to the gas station owner.

Lets do the math 60% + 40% = 100%
Not much left for an owner

EVERY gas station in Mexico is privately owned...

Pemex supplies fuel…
The owner buys ALL gas and fronts the money for the operation of the station…
He has a franchise.

Currently Pemex stations have a bad national image.

To market and restore the image
Pemex is requiring stations to upgrade equipment.

Gas stations are now inspected by Pemex or the government (IRS).

For those stations who upgrade…
Pemex gives a sign...
They become Cualli gas stations...
Cualli means “BEST quality”.

Our friend, Antonio, at El Rosario, had one of the first Qualli designations and we all know how good that station is run. Since we have had some problems with the old stations in Santa Rosalia, we were excited to see that we were getting a new Qualli Station. As you travel in Mexico, you see more and more stations with a Qualli sign you are at least getting some kind of an indication that they are striving to do a better job.
With that said, I also feel that I used to spend too much time worrying over the issue of whether I was pumped 5 gallons and paid for 5 1/2, or if I was not on my toes, that someone may have shortchanged me a few pesos, but I have come to the realization that the only thing I can do about any of this is to be on my toes and stay aware of the transactions but if a dishonest owner was going to play with pump delivery amounts, that was not something that I could change and I refused to allow it to change my attitude of enjoying everything else about my Mexico experience.
