Okay now I'm legal in Baja. Picked up my FM3 at the Consuldo a little while ago. Very easy.
I spent no more than 1 hour there. I was there 3 times so about 20min. each visit. If you had everything on your 1st visit and got there early it
could be done in 1 visit.
So, phase 1 complete. I will try to get to Ensenada next week to begin the registration process.
If it works out right I'll stop at the Pyramid for the booksigning party on my way home.

Bajaeng - here are the latest requirements from the consulate in San Diego. I got my FM3 in December, so I'm assuming this list is still valid:
1) Valid passport and one photocopy. Make sure the passport is not about to expire. If your passport has less than one year, you must first renew
your passport.
2) Present one of the following:
a) copies of your last six checking account statements to prove a monthly deposit of no less than $1000 per month and an additional $500 per month
per dependent
b) a letter from your bank (written on official letterhead from the bank) that specifices the above, or
c) a copy of your investment statements or your savings account to verify that you will be living from the interest
3) two front-view official passport-size photos. Photos must be recent. NO AUTOMATIC MACHINE PHOTOS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
You will also have to fill out the application form when you arrive at the consulate.
If you are going to import household goods to your Mexico address, you can also provide the manifest at the time you apply for the FM3, or you can do
it within 6 months of receiving your FM3.
The manifest requires:
Your Mexico address
Your US address
A single-spaced brief summary of your items, e.g.,
4 boxes kithenware
2 boxes clothes
2 rugs
1 bed
etc, etc.
Very important - any electrical gadget, tool, electronic device ( in other words, anything with a cord that's not a lamp), must have the make, model,
serial number and year acquired listed separately.
The process is pretty easy. Just remember that the office is open for visas from 9-12am and you'll have to return the following day after 9am to pick
up your visa and/or approved manifest.
The price for the FM3 is $134, price for Menaje de Casa is $127. CASH ONLY!
