mulege dorado tournament

mulege marv - 4-27-2007 at 05:29 AM

the summer dorado tournament in mulege has been scheduled for may 25th & 26th. should be a ton of fun, check out the web site for details, http://www.mulegefishingtournaments.com/
also the floating dock that will go on the end of the existing pier is under construction and with any luck will be in place soon. this has been made possible from the proceeds from the last tournament.

same days as the yellowtail tournament in bay of la. would be nice if these tounaments didnt overlap.

Bob and Susan - 4-27-2007 at 07:48 AM

lets see...;)

dorado = mulege
yellowtail = bay of LA

ummmmm....;)

jump'in fish
vs
bottom fish....

ummmmm....;)

capt. mike - 4-27-2007 at 09:06 AM

well...........i am entered and on Dock Holiday!!
so, we are sure to win!

come on bob y susan, you guys have to enrter too!

hey marv, we need to send those aerials nils and junior shot of playa frmabes.

i don't have them yet.

man, last nites cabrilla was killer again...ummmmmmmmm

got to fly home manana so......so long mulege, been a real slice - and i am back i n 2 weeks mas o menos.

4baja - 4-30-2007 at 05:11 PM

ummmm, never heard of yellows considerd a bottom fish ummmmmm.

Minnow - 4-30-2007 at 05:21 PM

Yea, Steve, I was wondering about that too. They fish em deep in that area. Though, I have caught them on the surface of the north end of san marcos, as well as deep over the sea mounts. Lots of home guard moss backs in the area.

Hook - 4-30-2007 at 05:25 PM

Tides probably account for the placement of the tournament. I would bet those days have plus tides in the AM, as most launch sites in the Mulege area need this.

NOt as much of an issue at BOLA, with their good paved ramps.

Bob and Susan - 4-30-2007 at 06:48 PM

hey...i thought most of those "croakers" were "bottom feeders":tumble:

they are at catalina island in southern california

anyway aren't jump'in fish way more FUN FUN FUN:biggrin:

Minnow - 4-30-2007 at 06:53 PM

Bob, I would take a Dorado over a yellowtail any day. Either ain't bad though.

Croakers? Are you sure you know what a yellowtail is? They are jacks, not croakers, and they are certainly not bottom feeders either - they are found pretty much anywhere in the water column, depending on conditions.

Dorado are great, but they are wimps compared to jacks in general and YT in particular. Try pulling on a 50lb yellowtail sometime.

Bob and Susan - 5-1-2007 at 05:04 AM

croakers ... jacks...

your're right...
i WRONG again!!!;D

susan made me put the boat away...
i have OTHER chores for a couple weeks...

can i use these for BAIT???
sure easier to snare this time of year:lol:

capt. mike - 5-1-2007 at 06:06 AM

nice dodo Roger!

i will be catching that size in the tourney...........for I AM on the Dock Holiday!!!!!!!!!!!

and for eating give me a dodo any day over a YT, but i eat both!!

i think YTs pull harder but for dancing action which i enjoy more, its a dodo.

Hey Minnow - you should come down for the tourney.

Bob and Susan - 5-1-2007 at 06:23 AM

tom if you come down i'll enter with you!!!

we can use my boat...it's sweet (con bees)

its almost wet !

mulege marv - 5-2-2007 at 12:34 PM

Minnow - 5-2-2007 at 03:58 PM

:o Bob with an offer like that I might just have to take you up on it.

Of course I will have to ask my wife, but I was planning on being in Baja on those days anyway.

50/50 on expenses?

I'll check with the Germans and see if they have room for us.

Wife says no problemo. Better start following Pompano around to water.

Bob and Susan - 5-2-2007 at 04:02 PM

i pay the gas...and boat
boat is already full and ready to "go-dog-go"

you think we should hire a guide?
i could reserve him tomorrow...

Minnow - 5-2-2007 at 04:12 PM

The guide is up to you, but we got Pompano's Maps.

You got a fishfinder wtih temp on it?

I've fished dorado with several of the captn's there. They usually just go out to between Pta. Conception and Sta. Inez and chunk. I think this early in the season might dictate a different strategy.

Bob and Susan - 5-3-2007 at 12:42 PM

minnow, his wife, susan and bob are in...

all licensed up...drove to santa rosalia today
boat...susan...me

Marv, when is the last day to pay the entry fees???

capt. mike - 5-3-2007 at 02:06 PM

Bob, with Minnow on board you don need no stinkeen guide , mang....
Tom knows where the fish are there!

Minnow - 5-3-2007 at 02:08 PM

Mike, we got it all worked out. Yho and I are in. See you on the 24th.

capt. mike - 5-3-2007 at 06:02 PM

ok, big fun!!

yeah, i'll be at la jungula for the capitan's meeting...............altho i am only a junior assistant deck swabby for MARV on Dock Holiday :tumble:

then 2 days of slaying the ever popular Sammy Davis Jr. fish and the AWARDS banquet where i expect to clean up.

beers at my place anytime, en la patio.

where (exactly) is the floating deck right now?
i'd like to see it before it goes in the water

where (exactly) will you place it?
will YOUR boat be able to drive to it???

if so mine will too...

bob & susan

mulege marv - 5-4-2007 at 06:17 AM

currently the dock is behind my house, when wet it will be attached to the exsisting pier with a walk ramp to it. and yes you will be able to get your boat to it. we are just having a little trouble locating the hardware we need to attach it to the pier.

[Edited on 5-4-2007 by mulege marv]

Bob and Susan - 5-4-2007 at 06:30 AM

if it floats out in the middle of the river
entrance i'll easily be able to get to it:yes::yes:

ramp

mulege marv - 5-4-2007 at 06:47 AM

yes, its going on the end of the pier at the boat ramp behind the serenidad and military post (donation pier)

Bob and Susan - 5-22-2007 at 07:55 AM

isn't tomorrow the last day to enter the tourny????

i'll have to buy minnows ticket for him and his wife...
they won't arrive until thursday for the meeting

Hook - 5-22-2007 at 10:29 AM

In past Mulege tournaments, you could buy them at the meeting. That's what I did about a year and a half ago.

Is the floating dock in yet, Marv?

Bob and Susan - 5-22-2007 at 11:18 AM

AFTER i bought the tickets today they told me you could still buy in at the meeting on thursday afternoon...

tom...we're in

marv where's the dock????

well, i appoligize

mulege marv - 5-23-2007 at 02:40 AM

unfortunatllythe new "floating dock " will not be in before the tournament. building something in mulege that is not made from rock or brick can be very frustrating, there is very little steel available ( except rebar), so after trying to get what we needed from ensenada and other towns we are now down to using what is here rather than what we need. with any luck the dock will be in next week sometime (its still behind my house) but both ramps are usable. as far as the tournament tickets go we did have a deadline of tomorrow but that has been extented till thursday at the anglers meeting. a deadline was tried as well as online purchasing to try to get people to purchase early so we would have some idea as to how many people would be attending for planning purposes, but alot just dont get it and wait until the last minute. can you imagine hosting a party with seating, food, help, prizes, etc., and not any idea how many to plan for ? makes it a little tough. ahh maybe next time .
i appoligize for the dock not being in the water for this tournament but it was not due to lack of effort, just lack of materials.

mulege marv - 5-29-2007 at 05:10 AM

it is a requirement of the tournament that ALL fish be iced as soon as they are in the boat, fish improperly cared for will be refused at the weigh in.

pics

mulege marv - 5-29-2007 at 05:23 AM

if you were one of the lucky ones and weighed in a fish like Rue Haberman of palm springs, i have a picture of you and your fish. if you would like your picture emailed to you let me know.

Great fish no doubt. To those who question the care of the fish, by the time I saw the first days big Wahoo, it was machaca. There was even debate if it was a Wahoo?

Made me sick, that I didn't catch it. Also, Saw many of the "winning dorado" brought in in gunny sacks.

Even though we didn't catch the grande, we had plenty of ice on board. I am not saying the winning boats didn't.

Great time all in all. Great experience on the water!!!!!!!!!
